That is not what was being said on DU. There may have been a couple saying that, but most of what I read was that he was willing to make cuts. If you can show me otherwise, I'd like to see it. PM if you are afraid of seeming to call out DUers.

Even in this explanation, you exaggerate and divert to hyperbole. When you respong to every discussion or critique with "Obama Bad!" "He wants to kill granny" "Obama evil" and the like, you not only lose credibility, you distract from any meaningful debate on the issue.

There is a difference between reminding DU members that they should contact the White House, and their members of Congress, to make sure that their preferences are heard, and claiming that Obama wants to kill medicare (which is not uncommon in DU threads).

Again, its a common technique ... use the title of the OP to set the frame, then SELECT the quotes to ensure the right outrage response from parts of DU.

The right wing plays this game too on racism. They blow the racist dog whistle, and when confronted on that, they look around and act confused ... "what, me? ... no no, I am sorry if any one took this the wrong way" ... blah blah blah.

My point is that the intent is transparent.

Create the framing, manufacture the outrage (and/or conflict), and then if challenged (or mocked), pretend to be surprised.

They resort to distortions, speculations and downright lies (sounds familiar).

That explains a lot.

Now that this seems unlikely, no one apparently remembers it.

But I somehow suspect that Obama sees it a big differently.

Based on his ways of turning the GOP back upon themselves, that this "sustainability" of which he speaks will give him more heft to put a public option or other health care benefits back on the table.

Medicare needs some changes to improve quality and cost, particularly in the delivery system.
