Can Someone Please Explain: Why is the President.....
responsible for negotiating things like the budget and debt ceiling? These USED to be matters for the House of Representatives and/or Senate to address. Fight it out among themselves. Then send the legislation (or lack thereof) to the Prez to either veto, sign or set aside for passage without signature.

Obama is doing a pretty bad job. But, worse, we've got a whole Democratic Congress sitting on its hands, while he gives away the shop. And those international wars? Who knows what is going on there, while the Chief Executive babysits idiots like Eric Kantor.

1. "Obama is doing a pretty bad job"
compared to Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush, who all did such a great job that President Obama is lucky all he has to do is simply clean up after them!!!!

2. President Obama is the undisputed leader of the Democratic Party
(at least where it matters) and must sign any new spending/tax bill.

3. I cannot explain it. However, he himself insisted on not adding
To the Health Care discussion during the summer of 2009. And when he was forced to, during
Town Hall meetings, he made contradictory and mushy statements, about "how if we were starting
from scratch, then we might go the route of Public Option, but since we have a system already
in place, we need to protect that system." (Apparently, from his viewpoint, Health Care Reform
efforts were not really about reform, especially not if the reform would impair the wonderful
Health Insurers and their Executives who make 700 million a year.)

He said that he could not add to the HCR discussions, as there is a separation of power between
the legislative, judicial and executive branches.

He is wildly inconsistent about observing the separation, however. For instance, last December,
he took it upon himself to "negotiate" the Big Huge Extension of the Big Huge Tax cuts for the rich.

If he hadn't let the Republicans help him be so concillatory about those Tax Break extensions,
we wouldn't need to hear about a Big Huge Deficit, because as Jon Stewart (and some of his
guests) have repeatedly pointed out - should we stop either the Wars we are fighting, or the
Big Huge Tax Breaks, our deficit would not exist.

4. Make up your mind.
On one hand, you observe that the POTUS has to "babysit" the Congressional Republicans, which shouldn't be necessary if they did their jobs.

On the other hand, you say the POTUS is doing a bad job.

If Congress can't manage to do ITS job and you imply that it's not the POTUS' responsibility to make them (I agree on that), then how do you assess the POTUS as doing a bad job?

5. radhika,
The GOP is blocking just about EVERYTHING in Congress.
That's why so many things end up in the lap of President Obama - where as in the past Congress used to hash most of it out by themselves.

The GOP is doing everything they can to make Obama a one-term president.

And WE must do everything WE can to get him re-elected! :)

6. yes---we need to back Obama
unless we want the wing-nuts in office! The Repubs are indeed doing their utmost to make him a one-termer as already mentioned.

10. As usual, go to the "T-word" when you don't like an opinion....
So there can't be any Progressives who are frustrated with how things are going?

So there can't be any of us that see the problem as deeper than getting someone with a "D" re-elected?

Grow up.

11. NO! YOU grow up!! One can criticize without getting personal.
Stomping your feet and whining that "he's a baaaad president" is most immature and quite typical of a troll.
