1. some progress made, Boner head put forward a plan voting on today
Edited on Tue Jul-19-11 12:53 PM by cal04
its not what I would sign
the problem is we're in the 11th hour
today the gang of six, now seven
proposal that is consistent with what I urged
shared sacrifice, everybody is giving up something

Dem president that would have spending cuts
modifications to strengthen ss, medicare, medicaid
my hope is that they are prepared to start talking turkey, in time for Aug 2nd deadline
gathering everybody in the next couple of days to get this resolved
we don't have anymore time to posture
staring to see a bipartisan gesture

President is leaving
evaluation of plans in the next couple of days
Carney will answer questions

http://www.politico.com/politico44/

President Obama then endorses a proposal put forward by the so-called Gang of Six (or Seven) that he says "is broadly consistent with the approach that I've urged."

Obama says the plan cuts spending, has "modifications" to entitlement programs and "would include a revenue component."

Congratulating the Gang of Six for its plan, Obama says he just got it so he's still going over the details, which he says might not line up perfectly with his goals. But he says that "we're in the same playing field." (1:36 p.m.)

Obama says Democrats need to swallow debt problems and Republicans need to accept "revenues."

3. In ways that will ultimately strengthen them...
Is what he said. You really should wait until you have the full story. Modification isn't a dirty word.

5. I KNOW that neither you or I know the details...
And yet you are more than willing to preemptively sharpen the guillotine.

I'm just quoting what he said. What the real deal is remains to be seen, but your leap to condemn is far more telling of you than it is of Obama.

8. Simple question:
are you in favor of raising the age for Medicare?

13. No
Now quid pro quo... do you know for a fact that is going to happen?

18. No I don't.
But given all the facts we have, and the fact that the President just said there were going to be "tough cuts" involving entitlements, I think it's a reasonable inference.

19. No it isn't...
Not even close to reasonable.

But go ahead and keep making shit up and getting yourself all twisted into a snit about it. Clearly that makes you happy, so knock yourself out.

6. Thanks for that, JL.
Modification and rationalization needed, so the program can last for long time, given the demographics. Folks around here like to gripe; sorry for them (NOT) we don't have W to kick around any more.

20. That's what they always say. The rethugs say that too even though we know they are
lying through their teeth and want to destroy both SS and Medicare. And now I am beginning to wonder it Obama is much different.

7. Do you even actually listen for the details anymore?
Never mind. Based on your reaction, the answer is no.

This knee-jerk reaction based on not actually having the facts doesn't help anything.

10. "you have to read between the lines sometimes" Translation
Don't listen to what he says, listen to what you think he says!

Making up shit is the only way to understand what this President is talking about!

11. Bottom line: WHEN those details are described in the FINAL plan,
then go ahead and go nuts.

We know no details. Not you, not me, not anyone else on this board.

We DO know that the President is on record wanting to modify the programs to make them SUSTAINABLE. It is possible that there is waste in the programs that can be shored up.

27. There's the problem, JuniperLea
That we can't depend on the powers that be not to help cut into America's hard-won social safety net is part of the problem.
