Kucinich accuses the President of concealing plans to cut Social Security

The White House Now Conceals Plan to Cut Social Security

by Congressman Dennis

Last Friday, the President told the nation that he offered a plan that would cut $650 billion from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Last night in his address to the nation, the President didn’t want to ‘bore’ Americans with the details of his plan but threatened that Congress must accept a deal on the debt ceiling or seniors face the possibility that Social Security checks won’t go out.

Curiously, the President didn’t explain in his primetime address to the nation that ‘the deal’ he has been advocating http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/07/22/remarks-president">cuts Social Security benefits and pushes back the retirement age. These changes are unwarranted and indefensible.

Social Security is 100% wholly funded up to the year 2036 without any changes whatsoever. It has no place in the debt ceiling debate at all. Furthermore, it is not the government’s money but the money of the workers who have paid into the program their entire lives.

Threatening the withholding of Social Security checks to advance an agenda that includes cutting Social Security benefits is not befitting of the Democratic Party, it is not fair to the American people, and it represents a sellout of the interests of seniors.

more

The President is going to sneak cuts to Social Security through Congress without anyone in Congress (including Kucinich) knowing about it!!!!

Either that or the President has the power to single-handedly cut Social Security.

Of course, there isn't a single piece of evidence in Kucinich's piece, but he, why can't everyone see that the President is sinister?

Also, didn't the President endorse Reid's plan?

42. Context?
The only thing I found was a Bullshit episode about the ADA.... failing to accomplish the point of the ADA.

A quote (in case this is what you are referring to):
Penn: "Provide a Clear and Comprehensive National Mandate for the Elimination of Discrimination Against Individuals with Disablities." That's what the americans with disabilities act says it's gonna do. What the fucking fuck? What is wrong with us? Have we all gone fucking crazy? We think the government is so good at what it does, the war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on war. The government is so fucking good at that, they can fucking do anything? They can make us all physically equal, they can heal the lame, they can make the fucking blind fucking see! How about the government sticks to courts, police, defense, and corruption, and leaves compassion to people that fucking have that! Motherfuckers!"

46. Watched it just now. The opener is hilarious.
Penn's in a chair, trying to "suffer" through ramps, chairs, platforms, while a guy in the background in a chair is just blowing by him and cleaning up his messes, popping over "obstacles". (Same guys is also in the closer, dude's damn good on his wheels).

As far as the claim "I saw him on TV arguing against government help for people with disabilities. nt", I'm not seeing it. It's an argument that the ADA was ineffective, and didn't actually do much to improve the quality of life for the disabled.... it was more of a "white man's burden" law, a feel-good symbol that, in practice, was more of a magnet for frivolous lawsuits than it was "government help" to anyone.

even something that makes no fucking sense is accurate!

"Last Friday, the President told the nation that he offered a plan that would cut $650 billion from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Last night in his address to the nation" (after endorsing Reid's plan) he concealed the cut he announced to the nation before endorsing Reid's plan.

Most often when DK says something it is credible. While I have split with him on some issues he is about the only member of our government I would call trustworthy. I do know he is one of the few I would ever consider giving my vote to anymore, sadly none of the few live where I am and the President? Well, I would dearly love to be able to vote for an actual progressive liberal.

He believes in the core Democratic values of protecting social security, medicare and medicaid and protecting the most vulnerable Americans, not those who are endowed with the most finances.

Last week Bernie Sanders mentioned in passing that Obama should be primaried and that Sanders could not comment further on it. I hope that he considers including Kucinich in whatever thoughts he has about this.

I guess the republicans have been successful with their 'lie... lie... and lie until people believe it' scheme. The president is not perfect but all this BS talk about him cutting Social Security is laughable stupid thinking and I wish people would see the truth but alas I guess people are willing to believe the worst about the man before realizing how truly screwed we would be without him.

21. Not sure about this.
There's good evidence that his plan included chaining SS (which is, in effect, a small but significant cut in benefits), and there is good evidence that it included raising the eligibility age for Medicare from 65 to 67 (which is a huge cut in benefits). But I have not seen evidence that it included a raise in the retirement age for SS (which would also be a huge cut in benefits). Does anyone have evidence of the latter?

He is looking for money to help all of us the people because unlike many of the other asshole politicians we have been cursed with over the years he actually cares more about us then money. Of course if you want to disagree then go ahead but I really suggest you don't bother. The proof that Obama is like the other corrupt politicians is just not available. He maybe imperfect but I rather have him serving us then the alternative.

If the Republicans had their way then Social Security would be gone but Dennis won't say that on camera because well... you know why...

We then offered an additional $650 billion in cuts to entitlement programs -- Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.

Do you really believe no one is gunning for SS benefits? And since SS adds ZERO to the deficit, doesn't catch your attention that it keeps getting discussed in the context of deficit reduction?

Seems clear they want to avoid paying the system back the money borrowed to fuel wars and tax-breaks for the wealthy.

45. Well, you're on to something there with the mail.
For one, stop using the mail system wherever possible, stop printing checks when possible, stop sending checks to dead people, stop sending disability checks to disability frauds, same with childcare frauds, marriage frauds, workers' comp frauds, working frauds, etc.

And that's just Social Security.

Medicare/Medicaid fraud has gotten so bad that folks will actually advertise their fraud on Television, with no fear of prosecution. "We'll give you a free scooter, (or "discount" your meds, or send you some over-priced tubing, whatever) and charge the government for it!" It's a better living than selling street drugs, with less consequences.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_fraud
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Medicaid_Fraud

As far as SS adding zero to the deficit, it's a huge cost to our overall debt (by law), which increases the costs of deficit. The "lockbox" idea was a good one, but it didn't happen. SS is already getting close to paying out more than it takes in, and the "lockbox" didn't happen.... and the money got spent on all sorts of other things.

*That Medicare for ALL is not only possible, but cheaper

*That America CAN have transparent, verifiable elections by using Paper Ballots,
NOT Corporate Owned, Secretly Counted Vapor Ballots (BBV)

*That investigating & prosecuting War Crimes is NOT optional,

*That the Bush Administration should have been impeached for Iraq

*That "Free Trade" doesn't exist,
and hasn't been good for America's Working Class

*That the Patriot Act and Warrantless Wiretapping is Un-American
and an assault on our Constitutional freedoms,

*That Wall Street CEOs belong in jail,
not receiving Million Dollar Bonuses

*That the elective WARS in the Middle East are NOT about "Defending America's Freedoms"

*That Cutting Government Spending during a Recession & Jobs Crisis is NOT a good idea

*That the Oil Law imposed on Iraq and endorsed by the Democratic Party leadership is a War Crime

Who will STAND and FIGHT for THIS American Majority?
Dennis Kucinich will.

But seriously, people are more in love with the idea of Dennis, because it certainly isn't for anything substantive. The man is an absolute loser loudmouth, with no real achievements. The only good thing to come out of the 2010 midterms may be that Kooch is finally sent packing, and I hope he gets back on his meds soon.

Look for him to go to work for Fox as a rabid Obama basher. :hi:

70. Style over Substance; DU loves that more than actual accomplishments.
Dennis has the loudest mouth when it comes to criticizing DEMOCRATS, and the shortest list of legislative accomplishments of anyone that has been a member of Congress, of either party, as long as he has.

Dennis is the epitome of a life-long professional politician with little or nothing of a legacy to leave behind him when he's gone, after a LIFE-TIME of taking taxpayer money.

Talk is cheap, accomplishments are difficult.

73. Can I just say?????
:applause:

You definitely get this overrated grifter. Hopefully he can find a non taxpayer funded job this time. He's everything people despise about lifelong "professional" politicians. :hi:

75. Had no problem with Blue Dogs getting the boot, eh?
Many of them were more reliable Democratic votes than St. Dennis.

71. Quit obfuscating/deflecting the issue by talking about Kucinich
Edited on Wed Jul-27-11 04:43 PM by brentspeak
Once and for all, address the main issue:

Yes or no: Will Obama sign legislation cutting Social Security benefits in any way, shape, or form -- including raising the Social Security retirement age?

It should be a very easy question to answer.

76. Didn't you just lecture me about this not being the Republican Underground
and then you go on to attack our Democratic President? Is it OK for you to attack our president on things you imagine he might do but it's not OK to call out a Democrat who has wasted a seat in Congress and accomplished nothing?

79. Translation: Democrats shut up. The president is busy.
You don't need to know what is going on. You elected the president, now shut up and stop trying to find out what is happening.
