The right-wing narrative is congealing
You can see the talking points popping out already.

• Now that Osama bin Laden is dead, all the bad guys in all the countries that hate us because we're Americans will try to kill us.

• Osama bin Laden was killed thanks to our troops and intelligence gathered during the Bush administration.

• We can't be sure bin Laden is really dead.

8. Just like the economic collapse started four years ago
Let's cut the shit. If it benefits the Repukes Shrubby started the ball rolling. If it does not benefit the Repukes it is all Obamas fault.

If I were Obama I would call them on it. Say something like "Republicans like to blame me for the economic problems but take full credit for Bin Laden's death. You can't have it both ways folks."

7. This seems to be a logical concern:

9. In many cases they were already and in many other cases they will remain impotent
Silliness. I think the short term answer is to praise Obama faintly, and the long term answer is to point out that Bin Ladin's death doesn't really matter.

That said, it is going to be harder for them to portray him as weak on defense

10. The concern over backlash is something that has been discussed on DU for years.
Politics sure make strange bedfellows.

11. Problem Is, Let's Define Backlash. . .
. . .to a term we all agree is valid.

What is backlash? People mad we killed him, when they already praised him for hitting us first?

It doesn't matter which side of the 9/11 story you believe, those bin Laden supporters believe he struck america in the name of jihad.

So, they were planning to attack america if they could, anyway. This event precipitates nothing new.

IMO, that wouldn't make it backlash. Per their own rhetoric, it was always part of the plan.

12. I don't disagree.
I'm only saying that I don't find rhetoric about a "backlash" that is coming from the Fox people to be particularly out of bounds stupid or unreasonable. It is what we have been discussing and, while inaccurate as you put it, is no more or less stupid than the talk when it was done on DU in the past 10 years.

14. I Misunderstood
You're correct. I misinterpreted your original point. We're on the same page. I thought you were supporting the concern over backlash, when in fact OBL's death changes nothing to those who want to do harm to americans. I see now that i misunderstood your point.

Peace.

18. Fear not...
This is the kind of thing where you can be thankful for the low information voter.

RW talking points:

• Now that Osama bin Laden is dead, all the bad guys in all the countries that hate us because we're Americans will try to kill us.

• Osama bin Laden was killed thanks to our troops and intelligence gathered during the Bush administration. President Obama couldn't have done it without Bush

• We can't be sure bin Laden is really dead.

What the low information voter hears: blah, blah, blah, Osama bin Laden is dead, blah, blah, President Obama, blah, blah, blah

but that reckless, arrogant group of pissants would never have been able to master the diplomatic skills required to execute the lethal blow.
