1. Reminds me of the joke about
The guy who buys a newspaper every morning from a news boy on the corner. He scans the front page then tosses the paper in the trash. He does this for weeks.

Finally the news boy's curiosity forces him to ask, "Mister, why do you buy a paper every morning, look at the front page, then toss it in the trash?"

The man replies, "I'm checking the obituaries."

The boy says, "But the obituaries aren't on the front page."

The man replies, "When the son-of-a-bitch I'm looking for dies he'll be on the front page."

5. This joke is CLASSIC, and never fails to make me laugh! It has a tendency
to surface at DU every time Cheney suffers some kind of "health scare"...

6. HAHAHAHA
Perfect joke for the hopefully more frequent and very soon irreversible Cheney-alert.

2. Why don't we have a Mark Twain equivalent in our time?

3. The Rude Pundit is about as close as it comes.
He's on Stephanie Miller right now, and I agree with him (anti-war, anti-death penalty but it's ok to cheer when an evil person gets it in the eye).

7. We could use another Will Rogers too
Or Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour or Laugh In for that matter. Or National Lampoon back in its heyday.

14. Not too shabby at all
But they don't have the clout the aforementioned had in their day, IMO. Our news media has been hijacked by the likes of Rupert Murdoch and vile scum like Limbaugh, Beck, O'Reilly and the rest hold far more sway than any of those you mentioned.

15. I believe it's due mainly to corporate ownership of the so-called Fourth Estate
Our news has been hijacked and our information censored.

4. As usual Mark Twain said it all.
Although I must admit that I have been hoping for this moment for a long time.

12. Yeah, the first time I read this quote in relation to this
I thought that it summed it up pretty nicely.

As I said in another thread though, short of just revenge, I'm anxious to see if things change in the "War on Terra" now. OBL was, after all, the reason we're in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Wasn't he? That's what we were told.

13. If you want to murder someone, please don't do it in my name - gratuitous
Even if I'm killed in the most heinous terrorist attack or tortured to madness before being hideously dispatched with cameras rolling, please don't kill anyone because of it. Thank you.
