I heard some good news in Pennsylvania this morning
Trying to find a link - if you have one please post it. I heard it on WXPN morning news which usually comes from NPR (WXPN is a non-profit station out of University of Pennsylvania).

Seems there aren't enough votes to allow Governor Corbett's budget to pass without taxing Marcellus Shale. And btw, this was coming from the Republicans. Even they want to collect taxes from MS.

I mean putting the environment issue aside (and trust me, the PA landscape will never be the same after this), Tom Corbett treats this matter like Marcellus Shale will leave the state and drill elsewhere if we don't allow them to drill tax free. But for a guy who graduated from Lebanon Valley College, Corbett is a dumbass (I say the LVC because I too am a LVC alumni and trust me - they normally didn't graduate dumbasses). The product that Marcellus Shale wants is located here in Pennsylvania - either Marcellus Shale obeys & pays the requirements we ask of them or we'll find someone else to do it who will. (or better yet don't drill!)

Shame on you Governor Corbett - SHAME ON YOU!

Drillers' fee, Pa. budget cuts votes may be linked
By MARC LEVY , 04.29.11, 09:00 AM EDT

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- It will be difficult to find a majority of lawmakers to vote for deep state budget cuts if Pennsylvania does not also require companies drilling for Marcellus Shale natural gas to pay a tax or fee, the top state senator said Thursday.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati made the comments while describing details of a bill he is writing to collect money from companies that are part of the hot pursuit in Pennsylvania to drill wells on the Marcellus Shale formation, considered the nation's largest-known natural gas reservoir.

3. Ya' gotta love Corbett's argument--if you tax Marcellus, the jobs will go away.
Really, you stupid mofo? The shale's just gonna pick itself up and walk across the state line?

4. Yea, really that handful of jobs
A good percentage of those jobs are filled by out of staters that have experience in the trade.

6. He's obviously not very smart.
Where's the gas going to go? Maybe he thinks his constituents are as dumb as he is.

14. Same here.
PA is in deep doo-doo with this nitwit in charge. It's too bad that PA has no recall process.

13. My mother couldn't understand why I wasn't excited to see an alumni make Governor
I told her he makes our college look like some crappy institution for folks who couldn't actually get into a real college.

5. Taxing MS will only make the state dependent on them
Stop the drilling at all costs!

9. Marcellus Shale is the name of the geologic formation that contains the gas
Edited on Mon May-02-11 01:13 PM by KamaAina
not a specific company. They'd be taxing the many companies that are drilling (and fracking :grr: ) in it.
