Thom Hartmann reveals security procedure for WH correspondents' dinner.

He attended the event this past Saturday evening, and said that all the guests had to do was pass through a standard magnetometer, the same thing that's been in place in U.S. airports for like 40 years. NO "porno scanner", NO invasive body searches. Keep in mind that everyone is in the same room with the President, Vice-President, and their wives.

His comment (paraphrased) : Today's airports - "security theater", anyone?

2. While I certainly appreciate his point.

He doesn't mention the fact that everyone who enters the White House is thoroughly vetted before they even arrive.

5. Not exactly true...

Having been to a Presidential dinner, I can promise that everyone who attended had to be on an advance invitation list that was scanned for potential threats. The room itself was also more heavily monitored than your average aircraft.

8. I know someone who attended the WH as an invited guest...

They had to give up their social security number and be checked out beforehand.

At these State dinners, they know who is coming, and have a background check done on them all, before you even reach the scanner.

So while Thom's critique of security theater in airports may be valid, this isn't a good illustration of the problem.

10. I seriously doubt he was able to recognize all of the security precautions.

Backscatter X-ray devices are capable of being camouflaged quite effectively while still doing their jobs.
