US strike violates Pak sovereignty: Musharraf

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/us-strike-violates-pak-sovereignty-musharraf/151009-56.html

New Delhi: Former Pakistan president General (retired) Pervez Musharraf called the operation by US forces to kill al Qaeda leader and 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad near Islamabad a violation of Pakistani sovereignty.

"America coming to our territory and taking action is a violation of our sovereignty. Handling and execution of the operation (by US forces) is not correct. The Pakistani government should have been kept in the loop," Musharraf told CNN-IBN in an exclusive interview.

"Foreign troops crossing the border into Pakistan will not be liked by the people of Pakistan. US forces should not have crossed over into Pakistan," he said.

Musharraf, who was the chief of Pakistani Army before he orchestrated a bloodless coup in 1999 and took over the government in Pakistan, said that Pakistan has also been incurring the wrath of terrorists and has been an ally in the 'war against terror'. He said that all the forces trying to neutralise terror group should trust each other.

6. I'll let Pakistan say what it needs to say. We don't know the whole story, or
whether they need to feign indignation for this.

11. I suspect people in the Pakistan military/government knew where he was all along.
I told my wife after Tora Bora that he's not in a cave, he's in some Pakistani General's summer mansion.

12. He MAY be right...
although I've read there was Pakistani involvement in the strike so it all may have been on the up and up as well. It's worth considering though and we ought not write off his complaint.

15. Maybe Pakistan should have been harboring a wanted mass murderer
Like anyone believes this guy could live in the fucking Pakistani version of the Playboy mansion without the ISI knowing about it?

Musharraf can eat a dick as far as I'm concerned.

20. he has to make this pronouncement
b/c he doesn't look too good right now in lots of ways. Neither does the ISI.

I really hope we're entering a new era of history and that the middle-class uprisings in the middle east will create more democratic and economically equitable nations. I'd rather trade fairly than be at war. That's a basic middle class value - fairness. I'd rather invest in my own nation rather than transfer tax money to weapon makers who hide their money offshore in order to avoid paying taxes and to acquire power beyond their wisdom.

When we diffuse the fear of other people's well being, we can focus on our own with investments in infrastructure to build a strong middle class in this nation, too. The transfer of income from the middle class to the rich, and the transfer of life from the poor to sustain the lifestyles of the powerful is ready for a correction.

24. Exactly what he MUST say
It really doesn't matter if he truly feels violated, or if he was deeply involved in the planning (the reality is probably he was unaware of specifics, but well aware that we would do this whenever we could). He simply can't admit to his country, which does have significant anti-american, pro-muslim populations, that he let us in.
