"... Jake Tapper broke on 'GMA' this morning that President Obama is also doubtful"
http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2011/05/house-intelligence-committee-chairman-reluctant-to-release-bin-laden-photos.html

The tide seems to be turning against releasing a photo of Osama bin Laden’s corpse. The head of the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence told me he’s hesitant to make those images public, echoing the news Jake Tapper broke on “GMA” this morning that President Obama is also doubtful.

“I have to tell you I think I’m more where the president is on this. I’m a little bit reluctant, I’ll tell you why. The conspiracy theorists are going to see the pictures, find ten reasons why they think it’s someone else,” Rep. Mike Rogers said.

“I think it’s pretty common knowledge. The wives are talking, ‘Yes it was Osama bin Laden. Yes he’s dead.’ I don’t know what we gain by showing this,” he said.

Rogers - who has seen the images - had a simple way to decide whether to release a photo, answer this question: Could it endanger our troops?

1. If the wives don't want the real bin laden to die, then why wouldn't they say he's dead? nt

3. They shouldn't be released.
It will inflame half the world.

And he's right. No matter what proof, Obama detractors will carry on. Didn't we just see that with the birth certificate fiasco?

17. +2 How much harm can it do us with half the relevant world doubting we killed him?
Edited on Wed May-04-11 08:40 AM by ShockediSay
If, on the other hand, half of the relevant world became incensed over grisly pictures, we have a lot more intensely hating people looking to do us harm.

Showing pictures would be asking for more trouble. The pictures would live forever spreading on the social networks.

19. If half the world was so supportive of bin Laden that seeing his corpse will inflame them...
Then fuck those people. If they're sad bin Laden is dead then I want them to be as inflamed as we can possibly get them to be.

22. Oh that's mature.
You want more war, hunh?

Some of us have loved ones overseas right now and I'll be damned if I'd accept running the risk of fanatics going off just so's you can have your "fuck them I want them to be inflamed attitude."

Go ahead and sacrifice Americans so you can enjoy thumping your nose in their faces. Great idea.

24. You advocate self-censorship with the hope that people will be nice to us
The people who dislike America are not going to dislike us any more because of a picture of a dead man who, according to everyone, was not a true Muslim and did not in any way, shape, or form, represent Islam. We killed OBL; showing a picture of his dead body is not going to piss off the fanatics more than killing him did.

5. There are a group of people who will not believe anything
And there are groups of people looking for any thing they can to discredit the President.

Then there is the media that will give the loony fringe like Trump, Palin and the doubters all the air time they want which also appears to be in an effort to discredit the President.

On and On, the bull shit never stops.

Releasing the photos will do nothing to stop these lunatics.

8. I heard on the radio this morning that Hillary and Gates are opposed to the release of the pics.
They think that the Arab world's reaction has been pretty muted so far and they fear that releasing the pics will inflame them.

23. Istanbul? I'm jealous.
I've always wanted to take the Orient Express there.

But yeah, I don't see why we need to see the pics of a dead Osama. Besides, if they can be used as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda or to incite violence against Westerners, then they shouldn't be released.

I hope that your wife makes it home safely.

;)

9. Show them to Congress, but don't release them publicly
There are plenty of administration opponents in Congress that would love to express skepticism. If they don't, everyone can be satisfied. Also the photos and DNA evidence should be shown to other governments if they want to see them.

I think releasing the photos publicly would be too brutal. Some people loved this man. There's no need to torture those people.

Plenty of people are questioning OBL's death, though. Not that many here, but tons abroad. But no photograph would convince them.

That just doesn't make any sense.

21. this falls in the same category as Obama's birth cert.
anyone who is willing to believe the pics/cert doesn't need to see it to believe it and anyone who doesn't believe it isn't going to be swayed by pics. You could let them physically inspect the body and they would still find things to question/disbelieve.

I understand some of the 9/11 family members wanting to see his dead body. I probably would too in their shoes, but Obama can arrange an private showing for those family members. I just don't see any upside to releasing this and a WHOLE lotta downside.

25. I'd like to see what I bought
I paid for it; unwillingly, it's true. But those are my tax dollars at work, and my money paid for those photos and the video. Let's see it. I'd prefer to know what's going on in my name. The delicate little flowers who don't want to see don't have to look.
