I believe that every action the Obama Administration took in this Bin Hidin' issue was 100% correct.

Kill him. Check.

Kill him up close and personal rather than by drone or JDAM, thus minimizing collateral damage, thus minimizing the opportunity for his followers to wail and gnash their teeth over that. Check.

Deny his followers a shrine from which to sing his praises or formulate plans for avenging his death. Check.

Show more respect for his rotting corpse than he or his followers show for their victims. Check.

I do not second guess any part of this operation, not even its purported code name, which has had its own argument here on DU.

I am proud of my President. I am proud of how his Administration handled this affair. I am especially proud of those people who toiled namelessly and without fanfare to make this happen. It was THEIR lives that were on the line and they did exactly what was expected of them by their Commander in Chief. In my mind, it's THEY who are the true heroes in this, even moreso than President Obama. Note: That last statement DOES NOT indicate a lack of respect and appreciation for his leadership and focus on the task at hand.

I think that about covers it.

Now they have to figure out if we need to deal with the Pakistani government (I believe so) and how to do it. I say economically.

8. well . . . Perhaps the decision to bury him at sea could be questionable
Edited on Wed May-04-11 01:01 PM by DrDan
He was a Wahhabi - a denomination of Islam that is against shrines. Burial at sea is appropriate for those that die at sea.

but . . . then again, who am I to rain on anyone's parade

9. Amen!
I rejoice in the killing of that bastard and wouldn't have had it go down any other way. Glad it was on Obama's watch and hope it helps in his re election.

11. The whole process was very well executed, except maybe
for the little communication gaffe afterwards.

I am not exactly the President's biggest fan, but I totally believe in giving credit when and where credit is due.

This was very well done, about as intelligently planned and competently executed as it gets in this type of situation.

Now, hopefully, military operations in this area will end.
