May 4, 1987: The US House of Representatives and Senate begin 3 months of Iran/Contra hearings
I'm interested in hearing what others have to say about the hearings, findings and lack of reform as well as their relationship to our present day.

Below are some links for background.

The Iran Documentation Project (The National Security Archive)

Contra Crack Series (Consortium News archives)

I sincerely invite you to post your Iran/Contra related info in this thread DU.

1. It was just a dog and pony show put on by Reagan and his followers to show
how they put justice before everything else. After it ended Reagan was proven innocent, my take was he showed just how incompetent he really was, and Ollie North got a medal for being a brave freedom fighter. It was the start of the conservative belief that when R's break law's it's for the good of the country nonsense.

2. I will never forget Larry Bensky (KPFA) completely breaking down
as the 'results' were announced.

A Black Day for America.

3. Remember Admiral John Poindexter? How about his post 9/11 "pet" Total Information Awareness/TIA
which has led to the many other elements of the privatized police-state here in the corporate fascist influenced States of America, land of the free (if you can pass the arbitrary means tests)?

Here's a reminder for a needed kick to this thread. Plus, Poindexter is just one of the many criminals involved in Iran/Contra.

Total Information Awareness/TIA links

Report: NSA's Warrantless Spying Resurrects Banned "Total Information Awareness" Project (by Ryan Singel 3-10-08 Wired article)

I know that some DUers have followed the trajectory of various Iran/Contra criminals and their agendas into our 21st Century, and I'd like to hear what you have to say.
