The Obama administration has insisted that torture techniques were not used to obtain information that led U.S. Navy SEALs to the location of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, but that’s not stopped Bush-era officials from launching a full-throated defense of their actions.
One caveat: the president’s CIA director has said that individuals who helped inform the government about bin Laden were subjected to waterboarding — but he did not say that specific intelligence gave bin Laden up.
Taking that caveat to its logical extremes on last night’s Hannity, the Fox News opinion host invited former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to advocate for the severe physical abuse of prisoners.
The interview seemed to contradict — at least in theme — what he told conservative news website Newsmax: that it was “normal interrogation approaches” which revealed bin Laden, not torture.
