Is the World getting ready to end?
A couple of Bible-thumpers came by the house yesterday. I was half way across the yard, in the garden, saw them coming before my wife did. They spotted her about the same time I turned to walk away. They swarmed down on her like flys on shit, she couldn't get away. After she ran them off she told me they were particularly anxious to get us saved because the world is coming to an end real soon. Well, I didn't know anything about that, but I wasn't gonna run down the road and try to get them to come back and explain. So I thought if anyone would know it would be you guys. So, is the world getting ready to end?

1. anythings possible
its all a matter of probabilities. Who knows when that unforeseen gigantic asteroid might smack into our little old planet, or a rogue black hole comes along for a snack. Not likely, but possible.

Because more people are seeing that these people are simply nuts.

3. A lot of the signs the Bible mentions as pointing to the end of times
have started to emerge. I do not remember all of them I was taught as a child, but I do remember there would be wild changes in the weather. I think (but cannot assert for sure) that some of the other signs were food and water shortages, and that the Christians would be persecuted.

But I do remember learning that the end times would come when we least expect it. This seems kind of contradictory when the signs seem to be showing, however, I do believe that when life on earth comes to a close, it will come at a time even when Christians are not looking.

File all of this as just my humble opinion; I do not argue with religious zealots about ANYTHING.

11. I am an atheist, but I am starting to wonder
with all this crazy weather. I think it is going to take a lot of gigantic tornadoes (which we have had a taste of here in the South), big, big earthquakes and huge, huge floods ((which some states are already experiencing) to bring an end to the world. Hopefully, it will not happen in my lifetime, which is not a whole lot longer because I am already 72 years old. I am also wondering if these rapture ready kooks have a point. It won't matter because I definitely won't be one of the raptured.

Cereally..... If that were actually to happen, I have a sneaking feeling there would be some HUGE surprises to see who is actually invited to the party.

I suspect there would be lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth.

See ya there! :hi:

32. When I was a child I wondered what would cause these wild weather swings
I remember this vividly because it scared me so badly. I hoped at the time I would not live long enough to experience this!! But the Bible offered no explanations that I was told.

Ironically, I too blame Republican and/or corporate control over all of these things.

But these are just my humble thoughts, and as I said before, I never argue over religious matters.

13. I know just who to blame...
Weather changes...Republicans
Food shortages...Republicans
Water shortages...Republicans

Hey, Dems have been trying to fix this shit for decades.

The claim that Christians will be persecuted is just their way of denying the evidence that they brought the end on themselves. (My apologies to good Christians. I'm sure you fully deserve to be Raptured. The rest should be ruptured.)

4. There are fundies who believe the world's ending this month
On the 21st, I think.

Seriously. Look it up. This isn't the first time the "evangelist" predicting this momentous event has predicted the end of the world. You'd think people might want to factor that into their evaluation of his claims.

I don't have a link (don't feel like looking it up), but I'm sure you can find something through Google. Camping, I think, is the minister's last name.

There's a giant billboard on my street about it, which is odd since I'm not exactly in an area whose fundamentalism runneths over.

Every day I struggle not to spraypaint "Mark 13:32" on it.

21. I think you should spray-paint "Tuesday, 19 January 2038 03:14:08 UTC" on it.
The world is much more likely to end at that instant
than on May 21st of this year.

10. Yeah, I think they're probably talking about the big
prediction for the 21st of this month. As another poster said, anything's possible. I'll add that if you make enough predictions, at some point you'll probably hit one.

It's not something that I have much (or any) control over, so I'm not going to spend a lot of time worrying about it. My PERSONAL world will come to a end eventually and I don't really worry about that either.

17. In Tarot, one of the oldest books in western culture, the Tower of Destruction also represents
Change. Everything changes, changes of all types are important to anyone. Perhaps there is a type of human knowing, maybe similar to that which some animals have, that senses the traits associated with change and aggregates them, accurately or not, into cohesive patterns. Those patterns could acquire various labels, like: "The Tower of Destruction", or "The End of the World" or "The Second Coming", or whatever some of these suicide cults think is coming, or . . .

I think the basic element is change, something that happens all of the time.

It can be big or small and our perception of it can be affected by ignorance and our status quo emotional environment.

19. That is a great misunderstanding that prevails
that the world will end
And if I may I will give you the abbreviated version here according the the prophesies of Revelations and the predictions of Jesus in the New Testament.
Near the end there will be wars and rumors of wars and floods and droughts and earthquakes in various places....then just before mankind destroys itself....(as Jesus put it, that no flesh would be alive on the earth) Jesus the Christ (the word Christ means Saviour of man) will return and appear to the whole earth with great power and stop the conflict....so that some flesh should be saved...but not before some one third of the people are dead.
Then Jesus sets up his kingdom and we have 1000 years of peace where men will beat their weapons into plow shares and pruning hooks and every man will sit under his fig tree.
And after the thousand years is completed the sun will run out of fuel and become a red giant and expand to beyond Mars swallowing up the earth....but before that happens a cube 5000 miles across will descend out of the heavens and take all the good people off the earth and take them to a new heaven and new earth.
That is the story that is in the bible....but most people have never read it for the story and so few know it....especialy christians.

25. Makes one wonder why He (She) doesn't just cut to the climax and spare us that stuff
I've never been able to figure ou the reasoning behind all of this.

I mean what's the point of putting mankind through all that?

Why not just end it quick, or jump forward to the 1000 years of peace, or whatever? And if the purpose is to save souls, one would think that He could figure out some kind of indisputable warning sign/invitation to get saved or else.

Hope that doesn't sound too irreverent. I'm open to the possibility of some Cosmic Plan and Ultimate Architect of the Universe. But I'd also give such a supreme being credit for more efficiency and common sense than that.

Rapture Index 183
Net Change -1

Updated May 2, 2011

The Purpose For This Index

The Rapture Index has two functions: one is to factor together a number of related end time components into a cohesive indicator, and the other is to standardize those components to eliminate the wide variance that currently exists with prophecy reporting.

The Rapture Index is by no means meant to predict the rapture, however, the index is designed to measure the type of activity that could act as a precursor to the rapture.

You could say the Rapture index is a Dow Jones Industrial Average of end time activity, but I think it would be better if you viewed it as prophetic speedometer. The higher the number, the faster we're moving towards the occurrence of pre-tribulation rapture.

Rapture Index of 100 and Below: Slow prophetic activity
Rapture Index of 100 to 130: Moderate prophetic activity
Rapture Index of 130 to 160: Heavy prophetic activity
Rapture Index above 160: Fasten your seat belts

If you were to encounter them, please ask them about the necessity of fastening one's seat belt: i.e., should one carry around an unattached seat belt or should said seat belt be attached to some sort of craft?

I see the signs they paid for along interstate 20 in Texas. I've been tuning in to them on shortwave as well on WYFR (WYFR = Will You Fucking Repent?) out of Florida and needless to say it's really starting to get entertaining! They are literally foaming at the mouth over this. Still waiting to get preached to on this end.
