Remember the bombing of a mosque in Jacksonville last year? They got him!

A St. Johns County man was shot and killed in an Oklahoma park today after agents from the FBI tried to arrest him in the May 2010 bombing of the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida.

Sandlin Matthews Smith, 46, was confronted by the FBI and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol at about 2:30 p.m. Eastern time (1:30 p.m. in Oklahoma) in Glass Mountain State Park, near Fairview, Okla., according to the FBI office in Jacksonville.

Agents said Smith fled to Oklahoma over the weekend, about the same time the FBI received the final piece of critical information from witnesses. Smith was armed, the FBI said.

Sorry, but this guy knew they were closing in around him and he made certain choices to assure a suicide by cop. I feel sorry for his kids.

"FBI documents show the investigation took its final turn a week ago Thursday with a phone call from an acquaintance of Smith's.

The man, whose name is redacted in FBI reports, told investigators that Smith had visited the man's wife in Georgia on April 22 while he was out of town. Smith's behavior was erratic. He held a gun to the woman's head. After another person intervened, he put down the gun and began crying. He told them that he had bombed a mosque and that the "feds" were after him."

Of course the local bigots are blaming it on drugs and mental instability, but this guy obviously had it out for muslims in general.
