I'm a Solid Liberal
Edited on Thu May-05-11 12:27 PM by blogslut
Along with 14% of the country.

Take the PEW quiz:

http://people-press.org/typology/quiz/?src=typology-report

EDIT ADD from the results description:

What They Believe

* Strongly pro-government and very liberal on a broad range of issues
* Very supportive of regulation, environmental protection and government assistance to the poor
* One of the most secular groups; 59% say that religion is not that important to them
* Supportive of the country's growing racial and ethnic diversity
* Two-thirds disagree with the Tea Party

1. Wow -- some of those "either-or" didn't apply to me at all. I'd agree with the premise, but not the
reason behind it.

9. What is a Main Street Republican or a Hard Pressed Democrat?
 I don't need a test to know I am Liberal. I might even be the most Liberal here. In my own mind anyway..

11. If you click the dots
To the left - they show up after you take the quiz. They give a description of each group.

If I keep providing quotes from that page, I'm going to exceed DU's copyright standards by way far. :hi:

10. I had no doubt. And I was right---solid liberal.
I thought I would blow it with the question about whether I can pay my bills without problem. But I had to be truthful. I have few needs.

Did you notice the comparisons after your score? I was pleasantly surprised with a few, but disturbed by only 39% admitting that government does a better job than people give them credit for. The talking heads win.

Liberalism is a lot more complex than that silly questionnaire would have you believe.

29. either a hard-pressed Democrat or a Main Street Republican
not a very good test. The either/or format makes things more black and white unlike the political compass, and also does not allow for the answer "who cares".

Kinda funny too, that the first time I took the test I said I was a "strong Democrat" and it said I was a "hard pressed Democrat" and then I took it again, with the exact same answers and said I was an "independent, leaning Republican" and it said I was a "main street Republican".

So the test, at least is partly programmed to tell you what you want to hear. I think I will try it again, give standard liberal answers, say I am a strong Republican (and also older male) and see what it says.

31. Solid Liberal, but there's two weird statistics about compromise and immigration reform.
When you get to the "answer" page, if you click on "Politics & Elections" then "Support for Compromise", the resulting bar graph shows that Solid Liberals are much more willing to support politicians who compromise with those with whom they disagree (70% to 25%) than are Staunch Conservatives (17% to 79%). Post-moderns are the only other group with much of a tendency to support compromise (60% to 37%).

By clicking on "Social & Domestic Policy" then "Immigration Reform" you get the support for a path to citizenship (which some label as "amnesty"). Every group except for Staunch Conservatives (which split evenly at 49%) support a path to citizenship as a part of immigration reform. Main Street republicans (favorable by 58% to 39%) and Hard-Pressed Democrats (favorable by 61% to 35%) were next in terms of the least support for the idea of a path to citizenship and each supported it by a net of 20% -25%. Solid Liberals were in favor by a 94% to 4% landslide.
