Georgia Republican State Rep. Compares Tornado Victims To Idolaters Praying To FEMA
http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2011/05/04/georgia-rep-fema-idol/

On Tuesday, Georgia Republican State Representative Bobby Franklin compared the victims of the massive super cell tornado system that ripped across the southern United States over the weekend to idolaters that “pray to their god, FEMA.” See it in his own words, from his Facebook page:

In Alabama alone, nearly 18,000 households have applied for aid from FEMA. The agency has approved more than $2 million in housing aid and repairs, and another $1.1 million for personal property. Victims of the storm system have praised the response from charities and federal programs.

4. What people are you talking about? The tornado victims?
I am just down the road from the towns that were hit in Georgia. Thankfully, the tornado skipped over my county. In fact, if it had been my home that was hit, I would probably be praying to FEMA to save me.

5. No, of course not! I was referring to the idiot who made the statement
about idolators praying to FEMA. Seems like there are an awful lot of people (Republicans, mostly) who can't stand it when the government does something right.

12. I haven't quite figured that out.

But I suspect it has to do with a combination of the poisonous and pervasive effect of Fox News, the influence of fundamentalist churches, ignorance and fear. Stir all that together and you'll create a cloud of crap that seeps into people's brains and makes them vote for the worst sorts of fools, grifters and demagogues. Seems like a lot of state legislatures (not to mention the House of Representatives) are crawling with these characters.

14. It's the ignorance and fear that the media, politicians and church leaders count on
in order to keep their "base" in line.

3. I've heard of politicians living in a bubble or being disconnected from reality, but
this pile of excrement is on Pluto.

Thanks for the thread, sinkingfeeling.

13. Inbred MF'er
Who the hell does he expect them to pray to.

Jeebus keeps letting this shit happen to them. Doesn't seem to make much sense to pray to him.

I'm sorry for the people who have suffered from these terrible storms. I'm heartened that maybe some of them will realize that the government is on their side.

15. These guys have no compassion at all, do they? And yet when they or theirs
end up in trouble, they don't just ask for help from the feds, they whine loudly and demand it--as Rick Perry did when he decided that Alabama was getting federal assistance help faster than Texas.
