Brazilian Supreme court is voting on extending full rights to same-sex couples as I type this.
Joint tax filing, pensions, inheritance, adoption, the whole enchilada. It gets better: Brazilian law already extends equal rights automatically to man-woman couples with no need of even civil marriage, as long as they have been living together for 5 years. (Or before that if they have a child while living together.) Has been the case since 1988. The current case is actually to recognize that such criteria actually applied to same-sex couples from day one, based on our version of the equal protection clause. (I forget the value of X at this moment. I think it's 3 years.) The churches here are whining the bullshit you'd expect of them, of course.

Right now, the good guys are winning 5-0. (There are 11 judges.) :bounce:

1. Glenn Greenwald mentioned that this was the reason he currently resides in Brazil with his partner:
Because he and his partner have far more rights than they do in America.

America should not be behind in any equality issue, much less one this important.

2. Well, SOME parts of the US are ahead of us.
I've been to Massachusetts. It's like Europe with Imperial measures and seafood. :9

3. 7-0! The good guys won!
If there's some homophobe among the remaining 4 judges, all they can do is pout now.
