Suspected U.S. Strike Kills 8 Near Militant Hub in Pakistan Tribal Area
Source: Washington Post

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A suspected CIA drone strike targeted a hotel Thursday in the North Waziristan region of Pakistan’s borderlands, killing eight people, according to Pakistani news reports.

A series of missiles pounded the town of Datta Khel, near what U.S. officials believe is the headquarters of the Haqqani network, an Afghan insurgent force that has staged deadly bombings in Afghan cities and regularly attacks NATO troops in eastern Afghanistan.

CIA drone strikes in the past year frequently have struck North Waziristan, a stewpot of Islamist militant groups that the United States has long pressured Pakistan’s army to cleanse.

Friday’s strikes — the first since the U.S. helicopter raid on the compound of Osama bin Laden in northwest Pakistan on Monday — are likely to further stoke tensions between the two allies. On Thursday, Pakistan’s military, which has been assailed for failing to find bin Laden in a military town, criticized the bin Laden raid as a violation of the nation’s sovereignty. It warned that future such operations would prompt Pakistan to reconsider its alliance with the United States.

1. Honestly, what ally harbors someone like Osama?

People, those SEALs would not have been in danger, the whole raid would not have happened, if Pakistan had handed him over. We all know it's bullshit they didn't "know" he was there.

2. I think those computers taken from Bin Ladin's house were a
treasure trove of information. I expect we'll see more of this.

4. This is nothing new.
We've been striking in Pakistan for years now.

8. With the exponential increase in drone strikes over the last 2 plus years
we have already been "seeing more of this".

3. Hopefully, they expired more scumbags.
Pakistan has demonstrated their "alliance" with the US lacks integrity, at best. Glad to see the President is following through on his campaign pledge.

5. But who are these 'scumbags'?
Are they actually people who have engaged the US? Are they people who have only engaged US troops via our presence in Afghanistan? Are they people who may be planning something in the future, but never actually attack any American?

Are they collateral deaths?

How can you so easily dismiss the killing of unnamed, unidentified persons that may have never even attempted to attack Americans?

6. I'm not dismissing the killing...

I'm applauding it. :applause:

If you can produce evidence that these targets were purely "collateral", then we can talk, and I might feel otherwise.

7. Sick.
I asked about your opinion on more than just collateral. Where is the evidence that these 8 dead had ever attacked the US? Where is the evidence that they were a threat to the US mainland?

9. Delusional.
At present, I am not privy to military intelligence. For now, I'm satisfied with this: "CIA drone strikes in the past year frequently have struck North Waziristan, a stewpot of Islamist militant groups that the United States has long pressured Pakistan’s army to cleanse." Again, if you can demonstrate that the targets were "collateral", please let me know. Thanks.

10. Got it.
As long as someone labels them a militant, you applaud their killing. Regardless of any action they may or may not have taken. Regardless of their motivation. If it is dead, it is militant and fuck yeah, go USA!

This is going to come back and bite us in the ass. Blowback can be a real bitch.
