Abortion foes in Kansas closer to reviving insurance measure

TOPEKA | Abortion opponents in Kansas are moving closer to reviving a proposal to restrict private health insurance coverage of most abortions.

But they were facing strong resistance Friday from key state senators.

The proposal would prohibit insurance companies from automatically including coverage for any abortions in their health coverage, other than those necessary to save a woman's life.

Companies would have to offer separate policies covering only elective abortions.

A bill cleared the House Insurance Committee earlier this year, but it died in the House without coming up for a vote. Now supporters are trying to get House and Senate negotiators to include it in other insurance legislation as they write the final version.

5. But, of course, that's not undue government interference in private businesses.
No Big Government there, no sir. It's not Big Government when it's in the service of Nordic Baby Jesus.
