Pakistan Tells Different Version of bin Laden's Final Days
Source: Star-Telegram/AP

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan's military paints a different picture than the United States of Osama bin Laden's final days: Far from the terror mastermind still trying to strike America, he's seen as an aging terrorist hiding in barren rooms, short of money and struggling to maintain his grip on al Qaeda.

The image coming from Washington based on information seized from bin Laden's compound was far different. The CIA says he was in touch with key members of al Qaeda, playing a strong role in planning and directing attacks.

The women's accounts could help shed light on the U.S. military operation that killed the al Qaeda leader and reveal how he was able to avoid capture for nearly 10 years.

(snip)

Disputes over money between bin Laden and his No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri, led the group to split into two factions five or six years ago, with the larger faction controlled by al-Zawahiri, according to two senior Pakistani military officials.

3. Yeah, how conveeenient for #2 Zawahiri to NOW be the main guy
in charge of all the resources, funds and operational decisions. OBL, now he's just a blip per Pakistan.... No need for the combined global forces to hunt him down - he was a nobody.

And I don't believe the women of that compound can help one whit. They were property. OBL's wife was a "gift" from a prominent Yemeni family who clearly don't see women as anything more than property either. She spent her entire marriage on the 3rd floor of that compound (sick), and I find the lack of understanding of her true role in that dynamic to be very revealing.

4. Does Pakistan's military have the cell phone data,
the hard drives and the thumb drives that our Navy SEALs confiscated when they killed bin Laden?

I think I will believe our intelligence over a country that was harboring the world's most wanted man.

6. Considering that they were either harboring him or unaware that ...
he was hiding in their country, I will take anything that they say with a gain of salt.
