I can't imagine doing her job, let alone at that age. She looks like she's aged 30 years since the 2008 primaries. I seriously hope that after she's done as SoS she spends the rest of her days relaxing on some tropical island somewhere.

1. Time has been exceptionally kind to her for a long time. Age happens.

3. I've noticed the same thing. She probably
has no time for herself anymore. She has been one of the busiest SoS's we have had in quite some time.

some of the pictures of her I've seen sure looks like she is stoned.
From her college days that is.
I like Hillary especially as the SoS

5. Tough job
I'm about the same age. I can't imagine having to do all that travel - regardless of how she flies - and have very little down time. It's a burnout job. I agree with the OP - here's to a shady spot on a beautiful beach for Hil!

6. Wearing
her hair down seems to accentuate her aging face. I have longish hair, and I look 10 years younger and much more awake when I put my hair up than when I let it down. I think she looks no more tired than other women her age. We're so conditioned as a society to expect women in the public eye to "correct" their appearance via makeup or surgical means, that we look at somebody who "looks their age" and wonder what's wrong.

9. I think you have something here:
"We're so conditioned as a society to expect women in the public eye to 'correct' their appearance via makeup or surgical means, that we look at somebody who 'looks their age' and wonder what's wrong."

Good point.

25. Ditto re aging/long hair. I too have longish hair, and when I put it up in a clip
Edited on Sat May-07-11 12:43 PM by DeschutesRiver
I don't look as aged as when it is loose around my face.

That said, I like pulling it back into a pony tail, so am keeping it like this for a bit longer. I've never liked the "feel" of short hair, but as I age, there are days when my arthritic hands would like the ease of just shampooing a couple of inches of hair all over, instead of what I have now.

Hillary looks normal to me for her age, and yes, sometimes that includes looking a bit tired, more so than a much younger person would under the same circumstances. People are used to seeing older women all botoxed/facelifted up now days.

10. Hillary has more stamina than those around her who are half her age.
I know, I've seen her in action prior to her becoming SOS. Having said that, she rarely gets a full 8 hrs. sleep as she has traveled more than any other SOS in history. She also hasn't taken an entire week off since she took this job. Although she did manage to get away for 4 or 5 days during Easter weekend with Bill, Chelsea and Mark.

What I wish for her is to recharge her batteries after 2012 and change her mind about running for president in 2016. And before someone mentions her age, dear old Ronnie was a year older than Hillary would be then when he became president.

BTW, June's issue of Vanity Fair has a very nice article on Hillary.

:)

11. I thought so myself as well. She does look tired, but it likely comes with the job.
Look how all the presidents age while they are in office.

But I would also guess that when she was running for office she likely had to put in a lot of effort to always look as good as possible. Now she can just be who she is.

12. Constant international travel does that to a person
I've done the country hopping before. Timezone shifting constantly. Never getting a good nights sleep. Always having to be "on". Getting back to an office full of work, then off again.

It's tough and exhausting.

13. My thought exactly.
Imagine traveling to all those countries and going through all the time changes. She must have constant jet lag. I have experienced jet lag when traveling to Europe. Once I lost an entire day.

15. She has endured decades of all out wingnut hatred plus personal stuff.
In general, despite being old myself and having experienced generational prejudice, I'm still something of an ageist in that some of the worst things I have seen in my old life have come from RAYGUN, CHEENEE, RUMSFELD, and others who have seemed to have been allowed to retread and retread.

18. +1 . She hasn't had plastic surgery. She looks normal.
Many women who work in the public eye would have had an eyelift by now. Remember how Greta Van Susteren used to look, before her eyelift?

BTW Obama's picking Hilary for this position has proved to be another excellent decision.

26. It's a job that will wear you down.
The average tenure of a SoS since 1970 is 3 years, 4 months.

Hillary will reach that mark in one more year.

I had the TV a few weeks ago but it was on mute. Glanced up at the screen to see a lady talking..I swear, didn't recognize HC until I turned the volume up and heard her voice. Guess the job is taking it's toll.

32. allergies...
I too think she looks fantastic.

she said the other day, regarding the look on her face in the situation room during the bin laden thing, that it was allergies that made her look like that. I have allergies too and some days you can see it in my face -- all the sinuses get swollen and irritated and it can make you look tired.

also she happens to have those puffy eyes that some people have.

go Hillary!
