There would still be, for example, cable TV and internet radio. However, there would be no radio or TV signals broadcast from US soil for reception by an individual radio or TV.

Little more than repeating "9/11" made a former major of NYC a credible nominee in the Republican Party. Every year, before and after the day of broadcast silence, there would be teaching moments available. People would have bread, but not the usual circus. The teaching moments could be used by some journalists to discuss measures that actually are likely to help prevent terrorist attacks versus measures that simply waste time and/or violate civil rights.

16. I'm the clown act!
Missing Jeopardy is like missing a meal. I can live thru it, but I'd rather not.

18. What clown act are you talking about?
A trustworthy authority on DU recently hinted that I'm the clown act. Is the clown act big enough for both of us?

3. Are you saying we should have an emergency EVERY 9/11 from now on?
To where in space do we beam these signals of our annual holiday ritual terrorist attacks?

4. I'm proposing that if there is an emergency, then radio and TV broadcasts may be helpful ...
to keep people informed, preventing impulsive over-reaction, and also increasing the odds of some appropriate reaction rather than no reaction.

I'm proposing that if there is no emergency, then there be no radio or TV broadcasts. Twenty-four hours per year isn't a lot, especially considering that at one time every Sunday was a legislatively designated day of rest, with major restrictions on retail sales, etc.

5. Giuliani did GREAT in the primaries, didn't he?
He was not a credible nominee even for the troglodytes who make up that Party. He is a philadering, cross-dressing, thieving jackass who wasn't even close to garnering enough votes for national dog catcher, and his erstwhile driver/chief of police was convicted of a pretty ridiculous felony.

That being stated, your suggestion will be placed into consideration and given the hearing it deserves.

6. By "credible nominee" I didn't mean that he had a good chance of winning.
Edited on Sat May-07-11 12:49 PM by Boojatta
I meant that he wasn't openly ridiculed by Republicans for being a nominee.

How many Republicans have compared him to Lee Mercer Jr.?

accomplish for the Roman Empire?

You don't have to be exact in your answer. Just an outline of your general ideas as you think about the question would be completely satisfactory, and much appreciated.

10. This thread started with a question, and I formulated another question especially for you.
Perhaps you should contact someone who claims to have answers. I cannot recall claiming that I have answers.

Of course, I'm imperfect, and in particular my memory is rather bad. I would appreciate it if you could provide a link to a message on DU where I claimed to have answers.

13. I wonder why you think that a question mark is essential.
Edited on Sat May-07-11 02:21 PM by Boojatta
The concept of a "teaching moment" is vague enough that it's impossible to prove that any given moment was a teaching moment, and impossible to prove that any given moment wasn't a teaching moment.

Three questions for you:

Did the OP include a description of a hypothetical policy?

Assuming for the sake of argument that the OP included a description of a hypothetical policy, if the policy will never be implemented, then is there any empirical basis for a conclusion about what the effects of implementing the policy would be?

What do you think the effects would be?

14. You said you asked a question. Even reading with a questioning tone, I do not get a query from your
post.

And if you think I'm bound to respond to your hypothetical anything, here's a teaching moment for you: GUESS AGAIN.

15. "Even reading with a questioning tone, I do not get a query from your post."
Do you tend to reply to a message when it is formulated in such a manner that, even when you read the message with a questioning tone, you get no query?

It occurs to me that you might be reluctant to share your thoughts in response to a definite query that ends with a question mark.
