Jon Huntsman, former ambassador, courts S.C. GOP leaders in potential 2012 bid

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A week after leaving his post as U.S. ambassador to China, Jon Huntsman appeared to edge closer to challenging his former boss for the White House, meeting with top Republican Party leaders here and telling an audience of graduates that America is “still the envy of the world, we are still as full of potential as ever.”

“I know there are many in China who think their time has come, that America’s best days are over, and there are probably some in this country who have lost confidence and think that China is the next best thing,” he said. “The real test of a nation is not how well it does when times are good, but how well it does when times are tough. The way I saw it from overseas, America’s passions remain as strong today as ever.”

In his 20-minute address, the former governor of Utah touched on human rights abuses in China and said that revolutions, business and technological innovations are still fueled and inspired by America.

Although Huntsman’s commencement address to the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina was shorn of overt politics, it comes as he has stepped up his campaign efforts in the state.

2. I think he will be the eventual nominee
Can't factually support my opinion in any way, but if Obama chose him for a position, he must be fairly smart and not a winger.

The teabaggers might be divided among several others, allowing him to squeak by and then HUGE money from the regular Rethug machines will ensue.

I think many Rethugs want to be "rescued" from the wingers and they need a candidate to turn them around.

If he wants to pretend like we are even close to competing with China in terms of scientific research and study or even manufacturing, he is living in a fantasy world.

I love how so many people are in hardcore denial about the rise of China and are still pretending that a country like us with such high unemployment, massive income inequality, no manufacturing base and a continuing decrease in scientists and engineers will somehow be able to compete with a centralized industrial behemoth like China.

Honestly if anyone wants to understand how we compare to China, just take a look at any nanotechnology journal. Most of the major advancements are being made by either China or Japan with Germany close behind and us much farther back.

5. I was watching the Monster Bug Wars show the other night
They had a Big banded (I don't know the name)Huntsman spider eating a another of his kind (jungle huntsman, i think)
What does this have to do with this guy?

As a republican, he must also eat his own kind, you know, like Cheney does.
We ought to find a way to ask him (on camera) if like his name sake, his joints are twisted, letting him bend his legs and arms in weird directions.

I know it was a stupid thought, but one must find humor whenever they can.
