the only way to fix the budget problem is to dismantle the empire
scope of our country...

Why do we need to be spending hundreds of billions of dollars on the military each and every year when the average citizen sees no real benefit.

You know who benefits, the multinational companies and financiers, investors who have a stake in the foreign markets.

1. Of course. Now, how do we go about that, do you think?
It's easy to define the goal. Harder to find a path to it.

3. First place to start would be to dismantle a few of the 14 carrier groups
we have roaming the seas giving protection to those who use those shipping lanes.

5. I'd like to see battleships turned into bridges, unless of course ET is planning
an invasion next month, otherwise, we could use the military for much more than blowing shit up.

“There is nevertheless a nagging suspicion among some astronomers, that all may not be right with the deduction, from the redshift of galaxies via the Doppler effect, that the universe is expanding. The astronomer Halton Arp has found enigmatic and disturbing cases where a galaxy and a quasar, or a pair of galaxies, that are in apparent physical association have very different redshifts....” Carl Sagan

4. Start by creating a Domestic Corp of Engineers
Edited on Sat May-07-11 03:22 PM by demwing
to work in America rebuilding and modernizing our infrastructure, and building alternative energy resources across the country

Next, begin reducing peace-time troops stationed abroad by 25%

Transition those troops in to the Domestic corp, at the same rate of pay, with the same benefits.

Then ship out the last of the 40 thousand troops in Iraq.

Get the fuck out of Libya now, and take Qaddafi out with us. Hand him over to the UN.

Within 5 years, reduce our troops abroad to 50% of current levels.

Within 8 years, reduce our troops abroad to 25% of current levels.

All troops will be transitioned into the new Domestic Corp, or the Peace Corp.

Main savings from this plan will be in reduced operations cost, and eliminated weapons programs.

Gains will be seen in savings that come from new/alternative energy resources.

I'm sure it needs tweaking, but thats a good foundation for dismantling the empire, and it doesn't even touch the "War on Terror"...

6. Yours is an excellent list!
Now, if we can just get someone in a position of power to pay attention to it...

7. We defiantly need to start looking at the infrastructure...
Of course there are many many republican "free marketers" (which really means free for them to fuck the markets any which way they can) who believe that private interests should build bridges and dams and canals and levy's and airports and all the other stuff that allows those of us of lesser means to get around freely...
