Jailed parents will file complaint
Jailed parents will file complaint

Parents of a Millard high school student said Friday they intend to file a formal complaint against a judge who jailed them for contempt during a truancy hearing.

Vaughn and Teri Crowell said they were handcuffed and jailed for about six hours after Douglas County Juvenile Court Judge Elizabeth Crnkovich found them in contempt of court for not bringing their son to the hearing on Thursday.

Their attorney, James Martin Davis, said the official notice the Crowells received from the court about the hearing did not compel them to bring the boy.

The Crowells said their boy's absences are related to his suffering from anxiety and depression.

Vaughn Crowell said their son is a loving child who's gotten into “typical teenage shenanigans.” The parents said they have been dealing with his problems for seven years and are providing him the treatment he needs.
