NASCAR driver Ryan Newman & his wife are helping to save the homeless pets from the tornado areas.

He did the same during Katrina, spending thousands of his own money. He and his wife even adopted some of the Katrina dogs. Ryan is a former Daytona 500 winner, Indiana native, and has an engineering degree from Purdue. He is one of the nicest guys in motorsports. There are links on his site and the site for the article below where you can donate. If you live in North Carolina, you can personally donate by visiting Ryan Newman Motorsports in Statesville.

Newman Foundation reaches out to tornado victims and their pets

A local animal advocacy foundation led by NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie, is making efforts to see that animals affected by the April 27 tornadoes get needed supplies.

The Ryan Newman Foundation is working with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in Alabama to collect a variety of supplies needed in the tornado-ravaged communities in Alabama.

From now through May 15, four drop off locations in Iredell and Mecklenburg counties will be collecting supplies for various animal rescue groups in Alabama. On May 16, the Ryan Newman Foundation will deliver trucks loaded with donations to shelters across the South.

“It’s so sad to see the highlights on television and the devastation left behind, not only in Alabama, but across such a large area in the south,” said Krissie Newman, president of the Ryan Newman Foundation. “Among the tragedy, many pets have lost their owners or are lost themselves, looking for comfort.”

1. He's a good guy and he needs a distraction like this...
Because he's getting ready to kick Juan Pablo Montoya's ass.

But seriously, this is a very good thing he and his wife are doing.

3. The spat has been festering for a while.
My money is on Ryan.

Ryan Newman and his wife have been very involved in protecting animals for several years. They are good people who are doing good things.

4. It's reported that punches were thrown in the NASCAR trailer today...
I heard (but wouldn't know how to find it) that Montoya twittered "Newman hits like a girl".

5. I read that.
I wouldn't mess with Ryan. Montoya is too cocky for my taste.

7. Agreed.
But then, I find all European and South American drivers to be cocky to a fault.

6. Good stuff! I'm no NASCAR fan, but I could definitely be a fan of this guy.

8. From what I've heard over the years most NASCAR drivers sound pretty decent.
I know every profession has its share of jerks, but that's the impression I've taken from it.

9. Most of them are.
There are a handful of drivers who I think are jerks.

The one major thing I like about NASCAR drivers is their generosity when it comes to charitable giving. In my opinion Kyle Petty is at the top of that list for establishing the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Tony Stewart has donated a ton of money to the camp and most of the drivers visit there regularly to interact with the children. Most of them have foundations for various causes. It's a large part of the NASCAR culture.

10. That would be a good choice.
He's a good driver and he has a good heart.

11. Underdog Regan Smith, who has never won a Cup race, shocks everyone to win tonight.
In victory lane, he announces his mother finally missed one of his races. She was in Alabama helping with all the homeless pets. I know NASCAR has it's share of jerks and repukes, but that made me smile.
