My 91 year old dad's neighbor's new twist on Obama's birth certificate.
I went down to Georgia to see dad today. He is dying of cancer and old age. Since I leave for Oregon on Thursday, today might have been my last visit with my dad (another story which I will augment later).

In the middle of lunch, dad's neighbor - a young guy who happens to be a PhotoShoper (I've worked P-S with him .. he IS good) - came over, breathless. He had downloaded the birth certificate PDF document from the White House web site. He claims that it was still in layers (16), with signatures added in the layers. Not even flattened (imagine)! Sloppy, sloppy Obama cover-up crew!

I suggested he pass along his great find to Glen Beck or Ru$h.

1. Sorry to learn of your dad's condition.
My little brother is dying of brain cancer.

These are the things that count. Not what some little turd birther dude thinks he found.

Peace and welcome back to Oregon.

2. The other question to ask these dopes is ....
Why the need to see a document that you CAN'T use to prove you are a citizen to prove Obama is a citizen.

The document that is used for everyone, to prove they are a citizen is the one Obama provided before. That document is the official document that anyone from Hawaii would use.

Ask the idiot why Obama needs to get Hawaii to produce a different document for him, and no one else? And why people from every other state also obtain official, registered copies, from their states.

Does this idiot think that all of us need to carry that "long form" BC around? None of the rest of us have to, but Obama does.

Why?

3. Doesn't OCR create "layers" when any document is scanned with images of text?
Not that I'm an expert in any way shape or form. Sorry about your dad. Hang in there.

4. I believe you are right, but I doubt any of that matters to people who are into the birther stuff.
The reality ship sailed there long ago.

11. When I open the PDF up
in Photoshop, I get the standard dialog box one gets when you try open to open up as PDF in Photoshop. There are no layers in the file. Mind you this is with Photoshop CS3 so I can't say what would happen in CS4 or CS5 but I have those at work to try. I will say that there is another part to this PDF that does appear in Photoshop when you try to open it. It's a image of of the certificate with most of the type whited out.

BTW if you want to see this when you open the PDF in Photoshop there will be an option for pages or images. Select images.

Now I don't know how they got the original hard copy into a digital form or what the condition of the original was. But it appear to me that what was done was that one copy of the digital file was converted to black and white (or scanned that way) to make the type more legible. You can see this in the edges of the letters are they are very crisp. This copy was laid over the copy where the text was whited out. This created the "abstract" we see. I used "abstract" as it's in the statement at the bottom and ui assume it's a fancy way of saying "representation". But what do I know :)

Where this Photoshop "expert" got these 16 layers I don't know

5. My dear DemoTex...
I am sorry this young idiot interrupted your lunch with your dad.

He's just bursting with his discovery and so he needs to spew all over your quiet, nice time. Maybe even your last time with your dad...

He may be a great photoshopper, but he sadly lacks in the good manners/common sense area.

6. I'm so sorry about your dad
Edited on Sat May-07-11 08:24 PM by Warpy
but what was his reaction to Mr. Photoshop? My own dad's reactions to some things were nothing short of hilarious when he was on his way out.

You can bet the guy is going to shop that thing around to all the gasbags and maybe he'll even make a buck or two off it, although If I were him, I'd not bet the rent.

I hope you get another visit with your dad. It's tough as hell when they do go and you're left to be the grownup.

10. That conversation was out of dad's earshot.
But dad was sharp today. Sharp as a damn tack. He is a long-retired University of Georgia professor that often speaks (as long as I have known him) in a very formal language with archaic terms, some Shakespearean and some very Faulknerian. I think he got that from his dad, a hard-ass Latin-quoting one-armed saw mill operator in the relative treeless environs of the south Louisiana Mississippi River Delta.

16. Could Obama himself be just another photoshop? I mean, I only ever see him on TV or in
a newspaper or magazine or on the internet. I'm never, like, walking down the street and suddenly, like, whoa! look! there's the President, gassing his ride! What's up with that? Why doesn't anybody ever actually see him?
