TCM ALERT
45 minutes from now at 7PM PDT, 10 PM EDT, "Salt of the Earth" is coming on.

This is the story of a company town trying to organize and get the union into the mine. It takes place in NM in the 50s. The actors were mostly local people, so don't expect Hollywood polish. Do expect a good story told well.

This film was blacklisted for years and finally shown on PBS (where else?) in the 70s. TCM trots it out now and then, but this is the first time I've seen it listed in prime time.

Since it looks like we're going to have to fight all those battles all over again, it's really worth a watch.

3. Sure is! It's the 1950s, not the 1850s

6. Outstanding film,,,,
Stars Will Geer, and the writer, producers, director all members of the 'Hollywood 10' who refused to answer McCarthy's hearings. Groundbreaking film in many ways. Watch it, hit the DVR, thanks to Warpy for the heads up!

13. Actually, McCarthy had nothing to do with the "Hollywood 10"
It was the House Un-American Activities Commission that went for hte headlines in Hollywood, a few years before Senator McCarthy made his accusations about communists in government.

7. I love films like this. A history rarely told.
I hate polished films.

Important stuff.

8. Just FYI, it's also available on Netflix, DVD and streaming. I'll watch it, thanks for
the heads up!!! Yep, it sure sounds like those battles have to be fought all over again. Someone was saying yesterday, and I agree, it's time for Americans to do a National Strike.

They wondered if enough Americans have the guts to do that or if the populace has been too dumbed down. I just don't know anymore, but it seemed to me way back Americans were not as much sheep as today.
