It's a really powerful movie and gives you some insight into the training these guys go thru.

But more than that, it's all the extras that the character Gooding played because of the color of his skin.

On Edit - I'm being corrected that he wasn't a Seal. My mistake. Great movie regardless.

1. I've seen the movie
And it has nothing to do with Navy Seals.

It's the story of the first black Navy diver.

2. XLNT movie, but Gooding's not a SEAL. He's a Master Diver.

SEAL training is 1000 times more intense than what is depicted in what was and is a very good movie.

3. He becomes the Navy's first black diver and not a Seal.
Nonetheless, I watched it quite awhile ago and it is a very good movie.

a Black CPO on the first ship the Cuba Gooding character was on.

John Henry Turpin is listed in many places as being the first black Navy CPO.

it. Thought it was a good movie. I will re-watch it from time to time. Both DeNiro and Gooding did a good job..IMO.

8. I loved that movie
How in the world those guys were able to stand up while wearing those giant metal space alien helmets boggles my mind.

Actually, thanks for bringing this up. I've been pondering all night what movies to watch tomorrow while I work on a tedious and very long beading project. I've been doing bead work for years though I sometimes don't understand why since it is really tedious, takes absolutely forever and is very maticulous vision destroying work. Thousands and thousands of teeny tiny beads each needing to be sewn on precisely and individually. I must be barking mad that I do this yet I can't seem to stop.

first Black Navy Diver.

Do not recall any portrayal of a "Goat Locker" in that movie. I've seen the movie several times, and it is in my collection of movies.

If you mean by "goat locker" a place where CPOs sleep, lounge, gather, and/or eat.

13. Please get the story straight before you gush over something
He was becoming the first black Navy diver. Has nothing to do with UDT/SEAL training.

15. My brother in law was a Navy diver and worked on a nuclear sub.
But am quite certain they aren't the same as SEALs. Their training is pretty extensive but nothing compared to what SEAL training is.
