Court Revives Suit Over ‘Ghost Hunters’ Television Show
Court Revives Suit Over ‘Ghost Hunters’ Television Show

The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals yesterday revived a lawsuit accusing NBC Universal and the former Sci-Fi Channel of stealing the premise for the television series “Ghost Hunters.”

Sitting en banc, the court ruled that copyright law does not preempt an implied contractual claim to compensation for use of an idea included in a pitch to television producers for a show.

Parapsychologist Larry Montz and publicist Daena Smoller claimed that they had presented the concept for a reality television show about the investigation of paranormal activity to representatives of NBC Universal Inc.

NBC allegedly told them it was not interested, but then partnered with Craig Piligian and Pilgrim Films & Television to produce the “Ghost Hunters” series on the Sci-Fi Channel based on the concept proposed by Montz and Smoller.

14. yeah, that show is a riot

Have you ever seen the TV Show Supernatural? It's a fiction show about a pair of brothers who are demon hunters. There are a couple of recurring characters who are amateur ghost hunters, and they have an amateur show called "Ghost Facers." I think of them every time I see Ghost Adventures: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSZZKw8g3UI&feature=related

5. I like it
Guess I'm one of those people haters love to hate LOL

Sometimes it is laugh out loud funny and frankly - I have seen "ghosts" since I was a child, so while of course this is reality television with all its camp, it is interesting to see haunted sites when you have experienced the paranormal.

6. Scooby Doo where are you when we need you?
I've got a whole cable channel that is nothing but "ghost hunting" filmed in night vision in old buildings. Between that and Fox News it makes me want to sue Comcast.

10. Travel Channel
I've got a bunch of channels together that I like because they have documentaries and things and this monstrosity is in the middle. They play Anthony Bourdain and Ghost shit. I cannot believe that Comcast wastes my money by putting this in their lineup. I don't care that they have one ghost show a day, but it seems like at least half the time I flip through it they are doing ghost shit.
