On military strength and readiness, Republicans talk the talk but do not walk the walk
Edited on Sun May-08-11 12:59 PM by kentuck
I have criticized President Obama on numerous occasions but he has brought the truth about whether Republicans are better on national defense than the Democrats. He has put "strong on defense" back into the Democrats column.

The Republicans pound their chests and blow a lot of hot air but are actually very weak in defending our nation. After all, it was they that were in charge on September 11th, 2001. They failed to protect this nation on that day. That is a fact that cannot be denied.

President Bush said we would hunt down Bin Laden and bring justice for the event on 9/11. For 7 1/2 years, he failed. He broke all laws that were sacred to the American people, namely, the US Constitution, and invaded a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, and in the process, killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people and ran up a trillion dollar debt. At the same time, he was able to turn almost the entire world against us. Why do we think President Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize? Other nations were hopeful that America would finally get on the right track.

In just less than 2 1/2 years, President Obama was able to capture the leader of al Qaeda with the right intelligence and the right strategy. Would President Bush have been able to do the same? It is doubtful. Because they did not interpret "intelligence" the same way and they did not react to this intelligence in the same way as this Administration.

Today, on all the news shows, we had the entire "torture brigade" of the Bush Administration on television. They looked like a criminal line-up down at the local police station. There was VP Dick Cheney of course. And Rumsfeld. And Rudy Guiliana. And Hayden. And Chertoff. Each and everyone of them still defended "waterboarding" and said that the info gathered from this torture was a big reason Bin Laden was captured.

It was dramatic television as Republicans lined up to defend their failed policies and to look for some recognition for the demise of Bin Laden. It was a major fail. They only appeared weaker than ever before. Barack Obama has neutralized the false Republican claims of "strong on defense" once and for all.

Edited on Sun May-08-11 12:50 PM by SpiralHawk
The Republicons luv to pretend they are all behind our sons and daughters in uniform -- but invariably they go all chickenhawk and AWOL when they are needed. When it comes to true patriotism, they are queerly quintessential QUITTERS.

Don't get me started on how the Republicon chickenhawks have trashed our honorable US veterans...

2. I think most Americans understand this
They are smart enough to see what's effective and what isn't.

The news media, for the most part, seem to be unaware of it or unwilling to acknowledge it.

TV news seems to be stuck in 2002, still attempting to give the failed bush administration the foreign policy credibility it doesn't deserve.

Perhaps it's because the media have been so instrumental in the past in perpetuating the myth of republican foreign policy and defense superiority that they are attempting to salvage some of their own credibility.

Whatever, it's vary transparent and I don't think it fools many people anymore.
