Read the thread linked below - not just the OP, but the responses. See into the lives of gay men and women who are brutally attacked year after year. Get a feel for why gay people get so angry when we're told that our "little problems" aren't important in the big picture.

This happens all over the country - no, your state is not immune even if you like to think it is - all the time.

1. All gays should be armed.
Edited on Sun May-08-11 01:44 PM by Kurska
If you're a homosexual in a hostile environment you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to pack personal protection in the form of a firearm or some other sort of self defense weapon. Frankly, after all the damage the republican government did by using homosexuals as scapegoats the US government ought to be subsidizing firearms for homosexuals and making damn sure that states with "may issue" permits give them out.

9. A guy I was in a relationship with years ago carried concealed in VA.
Saved his life more than once. I hate guns for personal reasons, but agree with your stance.

12. So its our fault if we aren't armed?
I'm a middle-aged woman who is shorter than average and has never owned a weapon. How am I going to carry around a weapon that would keep me safe?

It's similar to the suggestion that if I just carry a gun I'll be safe from rape.

in the instance I linked above one man was jumped by six men with a baseball bat. How is one person - even one armed person - going to defend themselves 24/7 from being jumped by a gang?

18. I'd buy a ticket to see that.
Not that I agree it should be necessary, of course. Just a very fine mental picture.

14. They should also stop dressing like sluts
Edited on Mon May-09-11 09:06 AM by CBGLuthier
That is part of blame the victim philosophy is it not? Should all women also be armed because some men are creatures from under a rock?

This hostile environment you speak of, work? Bars? Walking down the street? I mean I know gun lovers are SOMETIMES incapable of rational thought but give it a try sometime.

3. what I think
is that it is unfortunate that I disagree with the premise of your OP. Because my other thought upon seeing you in Mr. Scorpion's thread was "Yardwork!! Holy crap, I have not seen her in forever." :hi:

11. What do you not agree with in the OP? You think there is no
violence against gay people or what? I doubt you have the guts to actually speak your mind.

5. someone has that list of gay victims
in fact I think there are several around. Never for a moment do I lull myself into thinking we are safe , anywhere. You never know There are areas to avoid , however.
I believe most of it is "Christian" inspired , and don't buy into "at least the christians aren't violent terrorists" meme. It all depends upon whose ox is being gored, I suppose.

6. Even in liberal, queer-friendly Portland this happens...
I refuse to carry a gun, but I don't go out at night without my knife. It has saved me from more than one beating.

The OP was absolutely correct.

16. K&R
DOMA and other such remarkably unconstitutional horseshit is like a free pass to knock us all around.

Too much of religion is hellishly hopeless when it comes to promoting basic human decency in these matters.
