It is really mind-boggling to me that some people STILL doubt OBL died last Sunday.
A lot of it is knee-jerk Don't-trust-the-government stuff, and a lot of it is transparent "Obama Sucks!!!" stuff. But in any rational person's mind, this issue should be closed.

Al Qaeda has confirmed it. Pakistan has confirmed it. Republicans in committees in both houses of Congress have confirmed it. Non-Partisans in every branch of our Armed Forces have confirmed it. These groups have nothing to gain from trying to make our Commander-in-Chief look good--in some cases, they're at a complete disadvantage by doing so. And if they're all working together in some huge conspiracy--well, that's the point where you start bringing Illuminati and Bank-Controlling Elders of Zion into your argument.

For example, if Osama Bin Laden had died 5 years ago, Al Qaeda would have taken this occasion to say "HA! You foolish corrupt Westerners--your government is lying to you! Bin Laden is lying peacefully in a grave in Mecca!" or something of that nature. They're still trying to spin the death to their advantage, but it's extremely telling they're not questioning the "American" version of the story. Of course, some people think Al Qaeda doesn't exist, which means that Bush blew up the towers, which means that Obama is in league with Bush, which means that Republicans and Democrats are on the same side, which means that Limbaugh and Maddow are teammates...and down the rabbit hole we go.

**Show us the pictures!** For conspiracy theorists, this is the biggest proof there is--if OBL had really died last week, they would release photos of his corpse. No photos, no Bin Laden. It's suspicious alright--TOO suspicious. If the White House had taken the time to commit an elaborate, international fraud on the world, do you really think they'd have forgotten to forge some really good pictures of a dead Osama? But, the crazies will say, that's exactly what Barack Obama WANTS us to think--he's being cunning by tricking us into thinking he's incompetent at large-scale subterfuge--right down to the shifting official story over the first few days! Except, conversely, we also take the changing story of the raid as face-value evidence of a conspiracy! Oh, and have you seen this rare slow-mo footage of WTC 7 "exploding"?! And...

1. It is called "willful ignorance". In every society we will always
have a few who choose to remain ignorant and choose
not see evidence placed before them.

2. We still have people who refuse to believe we landed on the moon.
Some people will believe any crazy conspiracy theory... they are blinded by their own stupidity.

3. I was someone who thought he was probably already dead
b/c of the comment Bhutto made on Frost's show - but it seems obvious now that she was given bad intel - probably from the same people who were hiding him...

now, however, those who want to question his death - or say he died before - are just unwilling to let go of a belief in spite of all rational reasons to do so.

and while I understand those who are horrified by the way in which his death occurred - I cannot find too many tears for this moment considering the damage to this nation was already done when Bush/Cheney authorized torture and Congress passed the Patriot Act. I don't cheer this moment - but I'm glad he's gone and I hope this will be an opening to step back on the sorts of violations of the constitution, etc. that our govt has allowed since 9-11.

During WWI and WWII the govt did things that were wrong, as well - in a situation that had far more implications for the people in this nation - and we were able to step back from those. The problem is that we have so many
bat-shit crazy Republicans in the house now - so I don't know if it's going to take another election cycle to change things.

Democrats will not want to position themselves as "soft" on terror - and the Republicans love that line of attack - so we'll have to get rid of the looney tunes, seems to me.

Elvis is alive, faked moon landing, controlled demolition on 9/11, Joseph Smith's golden plates, Xenu, republican values......

There is always a fringe that be led to believe stupid stuff.

7. Conspiracy fans exist outside of common sense
There are idiots that don't believe in the moon landings yet believe we have an alien spaceship in Roswell. There are Big Foot believers, 9/11 truthers, crop circle loons, etc.

There is a segment of the population that doesn't have a deep understanding of science, technology, nor logic who will always fall for this stuff.
