Accredited groups use music to heal
Bonnie Goodheart is a cancer survivor. But even with the best of medical care, the Pottstown woman was in a bruising seven-year fight in which she needed all the help she could get.
In that ongoing battle, it turned out that music was one of her staunchest allies.
During the many hours Goodheart spent receiving chemotherapy at the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, it was music, she said, that "took care of my emotions," and "decreased my anxiety with a gentle touch that gave me a peaceful feeling."
Goodheart's story illustrates that music is a powerful magic that stimulates our brains, heals our bodies and helps us to control our feelings. Scientists and doctors have yet to discover exactly how it weaves its spell, but they recognize it is an extremely valuable tool in the struggle to cure or ease the diseases and conditions of mankind.
