How Palin's understanding of the mission, its development, its parameters, and how it should conclude supersedes that of the president and his advisers is unknown, but it would appear that she believes she has the military, foreign policy, and national security acumen to criticize Obama's decision with regard to releasing the photos of a dead terrorist.

Just the night before Wednesday's decision, Palin spoke to a gathering of Republicans in Alabama and said that Obama should release the death photos. It would help quell the conspiracy theorists, she said. She could be correct in that assessment, although the opposite proved to be true with regard to the President producing the long-form copy of his certificate of live birth to quell the histrionics of birthers, their allegations promoted by supporting comments and questions by individuals like businessman Donald Trump and Palin, who posit that he was not born in the United States and that he is not the legitimate President of the United States. Now they maintain that the long form is a forgery.

Perhaps Palin's Twitter insistence on the publication of the photos stems from distrust of the president himself. Perhaps she believes that the killing of bin Laden was too convenient and the story behind the raid unconvincing. Perhaps she wants more than official accounts and DNA proof. After all, it was she who insisted during the 2008 presidential campaign that then Sen. Barack Obama "palled around with terrorists."

Regardless, glancing at Palin's resume allows a look at her credentials in the matter. Her foreign policy knowledge, which was believed to be virtually nonexistent before 2008 (Russia across the Bering Strait notwithstanding), now includes trips to India and Israel and military bases in the Middle East. As for military and national security affairs, she has a son in the Army and has signed appropriations measures for the Alaska National Guard. And as for knowing how to complete missions, Palin proved in 2009 that she could complete her obligation as governor of Alaska in half the time it takes most governors to fulfill their elected duties.
