Triple Double Oreo
Triple Double Oreo

Call it beguiling. Call it disgusting. Call it the Double Down of cream-filled cookies. Nabisco calls it the "Triple Double Oreo," a prodigious new snack reportedly being prepped for national launch. As far as I can tell, it appears to be two Double Stuf Oreos mashed together. And while many will likely feign revulsion at the idea, I'd be willing to wager that most of us have been making the exact same thing by hand since we were 7 years old. Hat tip to Reddit and BuzzFeed, and to my friend James for sharing this amazing news on his Facebook wall.

1. OMG, Oreos were my favorite cookies as a kid. I would have gone
crazy over Triple Double Oreos! At least they don't use beef fat for the filling anymore...

2. I never understood the double stuff thing
For me, it was always about quickly scraping off the white stuff and savoring the chocolate cookies. And by scraping off I mean in my mouth, of course. But I wouldn't want twice the amount of that lard. I'd be happy with half the amount, frankly.

3. They should dispense with the cookie altogether
Just sell "Oreo stuffing" on its own, who knows how many uses it might have as an independent product?

6. But cookie percentage is decreasing
double stuffed obviously worked if they are testing triple now, so the market is saying more stuff less cookie

maybe they can sell the cookies separately (they are divine with a nice cold glass of milk)

11. I'm with you.. Nabisco used to make a Chocolate Snap cookie
Oreos were a close second (the snaps had a hist of coconut)..Whenever I bought Oreos for my sons, I would scrape the "white sweet grease" in the middle & just eat the cookie:)

18. HaHa. I do that!
Well, I don't stack them, but I always peel off one half of the cookie and eat it like that. Way more cream that way, but the waste used to irritate the heck out of my SO.

I've recently found a solution to 'this issue' however. My sister loves to bake, so I've taken to saving the unused portion in a Ziploc bag, and giving it to her. She makes pie crusts among other things out of it. No more Oreo wars in my house now and everybody is happy. :-)

15. Considering the grocery price increases of late
I wouldn't think this a good time to launch a new product, but whatever.

I do believe that the advances in food & fuel prices will have the effect of helping us all to diet a bit, so there might be a silver lining in that cloud.

16. SO getting.
And why?

Because I don't buy these things every single week and scarf them.

An Oreo here and there isn't going to kill anyone, as long as it's JUST "here and there" . . .

29. I buy Oreos -- about once a year, a guilty pleasure.
Hmmmm dipped in milk, but I only like the regular ones, not the doubles or the different flavors. So this holds no attraction to me. But an entertaining post.

31. Compared to those I ate as a kid
Oreos are a vastly different product. HFCS instead of sugar, many more artificial chemicals. They just taste different and feel different.
Trader Joe's makes a cookie that is more like old Oreos.

33. I just tried the new berry oreos last night. Mmmmm.
And yes I remember the chocolate-covered Double Stuffs.

But for everyone complaining about the cookie, keep 2 things in mind (and this is putting aside the HFCS argument by intention, because I think we all know these aren't ~healthy~ for us by any stretch).

First, while some like the cookie and not the center, I have never met one in my entire life. Not in person. ~Everyone~ I know -- and that's well over 100 people who enjoy Oreos at least a little bit -- prefer the center, myself included. So this comes as no surprise, since they've been experimenting with center 'flavors' anyway. Like I said, the berry was pretty good. It doesn't taste like fresh berries (duh), but it does the 'berry taste' really well.

Secondly, remember that the bigger the cookie gets, the less there are in the package. Now, this is true ~beyond~ just the space required for the cookie itself though. Para exampla, if there were 45 Oreos in a package, then you'd expect there to be 22.5 DoubleStuffs. But you'd be wrong. On average, you'd find you'd been shorted by a full cookie and a half -- this is part of the packaging design. The chocolate-covered DoubleStuffs were even worse with the hidden loss. So while each cookie is arguably worse, there are FAR fewer cookies to eat. It's not a true counterbalance, but if you eat by sight then yah...it does counterbalance ~some~.

Anywho, I don't think I would enjoy these. But I recommend the berry ones if you don't mind some fattening food. I limit my household to one package of store-bought cookies per two weeks, so I don't quibble over what is chosen. Myself, though, I prefer the Newman-O's, to whomever it was that posted them. But not the cookie -- I prefer the creamy center. :D
