Today in History- Jefferson Davis captured in Drag..
May 10, 1865

Kind of a Drag
Jefferson Davis, having fled Richmond upon its fall to the Union, is apprehended near Irwinville, Georgia. The rumor has that the first and only president of the Confederacy is found disguised in women's clothes is an exaggeration: he had donned his wife's shawl before attempting to elude his Northern captors.

1. Of greater importance...
General "Stonewall Jackson" died this day in 1863.

Less than 2 months later the North and South armies met at Gettysburg. After losing Jackson, Lee reorganized his Corps and this new leadership structure and the lack of Jackson in command of one Corps was probably responsible for the Union survival on Day one and their eventual victory.
