2 teams on standby, 1 to bury him if dead and
In revealing additional details about planning for the mission, senior officials also said that two teams of specialists were on standby: One to bury Bin Laden if he was killed, and a second composed of lawyers, interrogators and translators in case he was captured alive. That team was set to meet aboard a Navy ship, most likely the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea.

There, they would have the second team standing by if the order was to kill bin Laden no matter what.
So can we PLEASE stop with that stupid, irrelevent meme from "unnamed sources", now?

1. Lawyers?
Why the need for lawyers?

4. Even criminals get legal representation. We provided legal counsel to
the Guantanamo detainees.

6. But on the spot?
I can understand the GitMo detainees after they were rounded up and transferred to Cuba, but I just had a hard time imaging the commando team taking Osama alive while a lawyer confers with him.

I imagined bullets whizzing by and bombs going off while the lawyer is running alongside the commandos asking for Osama to give a deposition.

Couldn't they have just given him one phone call?

8. who knew what he may say
It didn't say the lawyers were only for him. He may start implicating anyone in the world. Talking about working with the CIA in the 90's or even more recent, or telling where incriminating evidence is (blackmail or just taking others down with him). He make be making stuff up or exaggerating, but lawyers would need to shut him up and/or take notes to prepare a defense for others.

10. My guess: to advise guards/handlers/interrogators
So as to minimize any chance of improper/illegal conduct poisoning a future prosecution case. OBL in U.S. hands at last--and getting off on a technicality--would be extremely embarrassing (not that they'd let him go if prosecution failed).

Just a guess. Our DU lawyers may have some better insight.

2. Goodness, we ARE good people.
I'm kinda shocked. Kinda proud. Still pleased as punch he's dead, though.

Actually, I'm getting a little misty just thinking that we were willing to go through the nasty mess of taking that ass alive. AWWWWWWWW, that was so NICE of us.

3. Just imagine if Bush had done so as well! After 9/11. We would still be the only superpower.
By popular vote.

7. He was just too small.
His concept of America never ranged beyond schoolyard bully. He was petty to the marrow.

5. The constantly repeated refrain that this was a "kill mission"
is a crock, completely based on ONE anonymous source for a Reuters snippet (it's not even a full length article). Those posting that snippet should be aware that it does not have any kind of definitive value, especially when you continually ignore the multitude of non-anonymous and additional sources that dispute the claim. Your little magic Reuters snippet doesn't work, largely because it is clearly false.

9. The President said that Osama was captured
and killed. I assumed he meant in that order.
