campaign, we talked about compiling a list of all the greatest campaign advertising
ideas and good one-liners against McCain.

We thought it would be so welcome by the campaign

But, it all kind of fell by the wayside. It is difficult to organize here...mainly because
people keep all kinds of viewing hours and threads disappear.

Many were hoping that the DU Activist Corps would pull ideas/actions together - but it
is pretty much defunct?

I can say -- with absolute certainty, and zero chance of error -- that the staff of some elected representatives is not only aware of DU, but read it from time to time. More, I can say with equal certainty that a few noted journalists read DU some days.

Yet that is not what gives this forum its value and worth. It's the dedicated and sincere membership of this wonderful forum that does it.

for many years, some became staffers AFTER they started posting here. And some just read DU nearly every day without posting.

I may disagree with the President on a lot of issues, but one site on the Internet is for the little guy, DU.

any politician that is worth much of anything knows the value of this - non-experts, some experts and a self-defined interest in a topic.

the more people who view this site also participate, the better to represent a collective pov.

sites like DU bypass the authoritative voice that reflects the concerns of those who pay others to have a point of view.

Some of the collective wisdom here would indicate the 70% support for medical marijuana that comes from state polls is an honest reflection of this nation's opinion about prohibition, for instance.

We have overwhelming support for traditional liberal values as reflected in past policy and platform statements - iow, neo-liberalism isn't mainstream to democrats around the nation, it would seem - including labor rights, universal health care and a social safety net.

We also demonstrate that some of the most contentious issues in democratic circles involve the Olive Garden, breast feeding and dogs v. cats.

that the general consensus on DU is THAT far off of what the actual PEOPLE of this country believe, RE: political positions on the issues.

HEY! Since DU has gotten pretty heavily socialist (of one type or another) within the last year, maybe that means the country is too! :)

but, yeah, I'd say that DU in the aggregate is representative of all but the most reactionary talibornagains... and liberals will never win their vote, so...

seems the problem is the way our elections are gerrymandered and electorally-college managed to favor regressive political stances.

We still might be just SLIGHTLY to the left of the center of the bell curve as far as positions on issues are concerned, but we're definitely NOT somewhere WAY out in left field. Regarding positions on issues, DU should be considered center-left.

I dont think I will ever forget my exchange with him. I tried pressing him on what he thought about Obama's constant caving and corporatist agenda, and he basically disagreed with me and said he thought Obama was doing a good job. Then immediately after he lost re-election I heard him making the same points about Obama and the dem leadership that I made to him before the election.
