Fantastic "I'm An Ex-Mormon" ad from Emily Pearson
Daughter of a gay man, ex-wife of a gay man, discusses how painful it can be to have gay loved ones in LDS and how much happier she is now that she's followed their lead & left the Church.

I think it's great that they are doing these "I'm an Ex-Mormon" ads to counter the "I'm a Mormon" campaign. Interestingly the "I'm a Mormon" ads don't address the faith at all, they are completely generic save the tag line at the end! It's the ex-Mormons that want to discuss the actual doctrine.

1. The LDS church is very good at advertising...
The videos they made/make are out there to produce an emotional response people can relate too. It's the ultimate in lifestyles advertising. The reason they do this is because the missionaries use a commitment pattern when trying to convert new members, the first step of the pattern is to "BRT" or Build Relationships of Trust, the next is to get the person to feel the spirit and the last is to get the person to commit to something with a yes or no answer. These ads help with the first two steps. It's all about image.

2. Same with the Scientology commercials they almost remind me
Of perfume ads on TV -- pretty images and selling something they can't really show you.

8. I'm another "born again" rationalist & ex-Catholic and
I don't think there is a voice for people who have made their way out these belief systems that you get indoctrinated to from the cradle....freedom is beautiful and the real, natural world is a beautiful place. We just have to start taking care of it and each other and stop waiting for God to clean up our messes!
