Final Settlement Reached in Major Witt DADT Case

Major Margaret Witt, a highly-praised flight nurse dismissed under the U.S. Army's soon-to-be-retired "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that bans openly gay service personnel, has reached a final settlement in her landmark lawsuit, the ACLU of Washington has announced.

According to the ACLU, which has represented Major Witt since the beginning of her 2006 legal challenge, Witt will retire with full benefits, the government will drop its appeal and the unlawful discharge will be stricken from her military service record.

"I am proud to have played a role in bringing about the repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' I am so pleased that the tens of thousands of lesbians and gays who have served their country honorably will be able to serve openly," said Major Witt.
