Senate Republicans are begging Harry Reid to not force them to vote on Ryan's budget.
Beg all you want! Begging is what you do when you have no other options. Begging is what you do when you are starving or can't pay your medical bills. Begging is what you do when your company fires more little people to cover multi-million dollar bonuses.

Hey Senate Republicans!! Looky there, your budget bill is turning the American poor into beggars and now you get to join them! Beg all you want!!

I, for one, sure the hell hope it comes up for a vote. I just wish they'd done it faster!

Great blog on the subject (and a wicked anti-Ryan website to boot!)

7. Yes, the sooner the better. The real pity is they didn't do it the same week
when all the republicans would have voted for it. BUT...the Tea Party Senators just might still vote yes.

9. I'm betting Reid backs down....
Those guys... sensible (and I use the word loosely) Repubs and Dems know they have to work together and more or less get along. They posture for the suckers, but they still have lunch together. They know they have to get along somehow.

Putting this monster up for a vote means pissing in your lunch partner's soup. Not done.

11. If Reid 'backs down' it's because they used the Ryan budget as a bargaining tool
Hopefully for the Dems to get some good stuff done. Like - you guys vote to allow DOMA be repealed and we won't force you to vote on the Ryan budget.

30. The freakin' Republicans don't worry about pissing in the
Democrats' soup! They obviously are not concerned about maintaining a viable working partnership. Besides, they DON'T work with the Democrats, they just crush them with steamrollers and then backstab them, so what would the Democrats have to lose by not being buddies with the Republicans?

25. I agree. With the stipulation that SOME of us
never went to sleep. :) We did have to go into hiding somewhat during the "Reagan Reaction", but we're back out in the open now. Hopefully, those "Reagan Democrats" have wised up over the last 30 years or so and THEY'VE awakened.

But never got really gung ho into politics. I was a fan of Al Gore though and had hopes he would heal some of the damage done to the earth under bush and reagan. Sigh... but...his loss got me more interested in politics.

Hillary Clinton was the first time I ever donated to a candidate!

Not making them vote on their own party's budget is a big something.

19. Then the Senate Republicans
Edited on Thu May-12-11 09:54 AM by Volaris
should have acted like the adults they CLAIM to be and went to their House colleagues and smacked the political snot out of them for their collective idiocy. (and if they REALLY wanted to be seen as the adults of Americas Government, they would have done so PUBLICLY...)

The PRIMARY role of the upper chamber of Congress (as it was conceived) was to represent the best interests of the several sovereign States to the federal government. The secondary role of that chamber is to act as a check against the mob rule that will, occasionally, BUT INEVITABLY arise from the "Peoples" House. They can go beg Harry NOT to make them vote on it, thereby abdicating their secondary Constitutional responsibility (again lol), OR they can actually fulfill their Constitutional Role, vote NO on it like sane adults, and then go find their House counterparts and (privately) tear them all a new one for making them deal with this kind of nonsense in the first place.

Until they can summon the will to do either of things, they have no room to bitch or cry. If I were Harry, I would hit them so hard that on ELECTION DAY their heads will still be hurting. "Don't MAKE us do our JOBS, Mister, pleasepleaseplease....." Don't make me laugh.
Fuckin' pansies.

42. I'm wondering if the regular old repubs let the tea party step into a trap
to get rid of them...they know they can't beat obama so maybe they figure the'll go ahead and get rid of the tea party in a quick and dirty way?

but...all the repubs went for it so....i guess my idea doesn't hold much water.

46. IF thats whats happening, its probably not INTENTIONAL on their part...
I would encourage you not to discount your own theory on the basis of the GOP flailing around in the dark with a bat, I.E., just because they can't see what they are swinging at doesn't mean they won't still hit it eventually...dumb luck (and I do mean DUMB) will see to that, if they keep at it long enough....

I think your right in that they KNOW they can't beat Obama this cycle, I think the "thinkers" over there are considering what a Jeb 2016 kinda thing would look like, but in the meantime, there is no umbrella strategy.....I think Boehner is in over his head...(I DO have some sympathy for him in that regard, its tough wrangling (House)Cats anyway, but he DID bring this on himself by letting the rabid ones in...)

If I had to plan longterm strategy over there....well, that would take even great minds like yours and mine a decent amount of time to figure out so for the time being they're kinda screwed lol

I think OUR longterm strategy should be to get Howard Dean elected in 2016, partially on a platform of Monetary Policy reform (debt-FREE currency as the MEANS to wealth generation in the middle class, rather than the END..., a sane tax code at EVERY level... things like that...

FDR got elected on the idea of "a chicken in every pot".....the modern equivalent of that should be "Solar panels on every roof..."

suggestions are welcome, as always....
