President Obama just mentioned Missoula, Montana!
He is speaking now at the Natl. Police Organization awards. Apparently the Montana officers were whooping it up some and making some noise and President Obama looked over and said, "That's my Montana delegation, right? Missoula, Montana?"

I was just thrilled to hear the President mention my home town!

Missoula Montana is best known lately for their advocacy of medical marijuana and their central position in the fight for that. It's a pretty liberal town in the middle of a fairly conservative state.

1. It's also where I quite unexpectedly came in third in the
state junior bowling championship! Loooong time ago (I used to live in Boulder for a couple of years).

:hi:

4. Heh--I thought it was a really big city back then! Boulder had 1500 people,
IIRC, and we pretty much knew every one of them.

6. Oh, I thought Boulder was bigger than that! I always think of Missoula as
being a small town, it really has a small town friendliness to it, but I guess it's not really all that small...

5. Wow, that's great! What elementary school did you go to? I went to Target Range. My family
moved away then around my 12th birthday (which I hated, I loved Missoula so much!) but I will always consider Missoula home!

7. I probably shouldn't have started a thread mentioning it but I was just so excited that
I wanted to just jump up and down! I mean you never get to hear any President mention Montana, let alone Missoula!

8. No doubt the general public may feel that way but can the same be said for the police officers?
I imagine they make a fair amount of money from the so called "War on Drugs" and apparently the Obama Administration sides with those unjust, dysfunctional and draconian police state policies, and not policies of independence, liberty and compassion.

"Missoula Montana is best known lately for their advocacy of medical marijuana and their central position in the fight for that. It's a pretty liberal town in the middle of a fairly conservative state."

marijuana anyway. It's kind of surprising the people you meet from Missoula. No one is what you'd expect, you know? I mean I bet most Police would be against medical marijuana but in Missoula...you never know, Missoula is a different kind of town. It's like a warp in the time-space continuum or something.

Thanks for saying "thanks" for the thread!

How much would pay/benefits be reduced for the average Missoula police officer if the war on drugs were over?

16. I don't know...don't know if the police force would be smaller or not. From what I
remember a lot of the work they had to do was answering domestic violence calls and dealing with drunks doing stupid and harmful things. If pot were legalized it might or might not cut down on the number of drinkers in the area, I don't know...it's food for thought I guess.
