Obamacare suffers huge bodyblow
The current headline on Old Folx and Frauds

....... But in an unusual rebuke, an umbrella group representing premier organizations such as the Mayo Clinic wrote the administration Wednesday saying that more than 90 percent of its members would not participate, because the rules as written are so onerous it would be nearly impossible for them to succeed.

"It's not just a simple tweak, it's a significant change that needs to be made," said Donald Fisher, president of the American Medical Group Association, which represents nearly 400 large medical groups around the country providing care for roughly 1 in 3 Americans. Its members, including the Cleveland Clinic, Intermountain Healthcare in Utah, and Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania, had been seen as the vanguard for ..........

9. Exactly
"Obamacare" might have just complicated a system that is way too complicated already. Single-payer would obviously streamline everything.

5. I don't understand the involvement of the Mayo Clinic. I can see
why the ins. co's would be bitching but the Mayo Clinic is NOT an ins. co.

14. medicare
Reform is cutting $250-500 billion in medicare costs (actual number depends who you listen to and how states react). The legislation is not specific about where the cost-savings will come from. The agencies writing the regulations will determine that. If there really is that much inefficiency in the system, then providers don't have to worry. So far, the government hasn't shown how they can cut costs that much just by being more efficient and the mayo clinic doesn't want to be stuck with with the loss.

They may just be posturing to get the rules (and $$) where they want. They may have a legitimate complaint that congress will fix. Or they may have a legitimate complaint that congress doesn't fix and causes significant problems with medicare. I'd guess there are some real problems - $250 billion is a lot to cut even over 10 years and everyone was pretty vague when they explained how it could be done without hurting care. I'd also guess congress won't fix it while the republicans are in control and they will love to be able to say "see, insurance reform hurt medicare patients".

18. From every reliable source I've talked to or researched, the BIG CUT
to Medicare is the reduction to the amount given to Advantage Plans. Obama was very clear on that too. During the campaign he specifically stated that Advantage Plans are "Private Insurance Plans" that are subsidized by the Gov't and it was foolish for the gov't to give these plans an unfair advantage over Medicare. That's why I said I didn't understand why the Mayo Clinic was involved in this. The complainers should be the ins. co's not the providers.

15. No but they are the ones who have to do the paper work on claims
to get their money out of the programs. It would help to know if this group is objecting to the program or the red tape that is involved in it. Even before anyone was talking about this plan doctors, clinics and hospitals not to mention medical suppliers (pharmacies, care providers, etc.) were complaining about all the paper work (the overhead, administration) that is involved. That is why a single payer program was needed.

Who does this group usually support? Democrats or rethugs?

I'm pretty sure it was invented by the right. Do you have cite showing that he coined it?

10. I'm for Universal or Single-payer
I dont like "Obamacare" because its half-assed give-away to the health insurance companies and it seems even more complicated.
If the Vermont Medicare doesnt catch on across the US I'm moving to another country which I've been planning for 2 years now.

11. In reality its ROMNEYCARE in disguise.
And I spend most of my online posting at Foxnation blogs battling their total and utter ignorance. There's about 4 or 5 other Progressive regulars there as well. And we could use some help.

19. I try to keep an open mind about new posters
since I was a new poster once, too.

But "Obamacare"?

Suffers a huge bodyblow? Why does this seem like a rightwing talking point?

Oh, since it is, couched as a post, but the poster truly doesn't know any better.

20. Mayo Clinic is doing just fine the way they operate
I can understand why they may want to keep things the way they are. Our oldest child had surgery there 28 times, over 8 years, and we love that place. I would hate to see it injured accidentally as it tried to change.
