24. And may his passing have been peaceful
with little pain and no fear.

I wonder if it was the one whose feet and legs were badly burned when he stepped into the water in one of the containment buildings.

6. That's three, at least one of which was from radiation. The other two were...
...killed not during the tsunami (I believe), but afterward and in an area with highly, highly radioactive water. I believe they said that one or both of the men died from "blood loss". Maybe I'm wrong about the timing, but I could have sworn I remember thinking- "Did they just start puking up blood the radiation was so bad?" We'd be talking mega-high doses of radiation to do that, though, I think something upwards of 20+ sieverts an hour.

11. The two they found in the basement of the turbine room had been missing since the quake.
They were dead long before there would have been any radioactive water in the turbine building.

I'm not sure on what basis we assume that an as-yet unreported death was from radiation.

14. First, thank you for the clarification- I recall that they were discovered after...
...the tsunami but they had been missing since then. And second, you're right: There really isn't any reason to believe the death was from radiation poisoning. Obviously, that's the firs thing that comes to people's minds, but they have been worked to the bone recently and it's quite possible that stress or some other cause led to the fatality.

27. not according to this:
Since the quake and tsunami-induced crisis began March 11, two other workers have died at the facility, both believed to have drowned in the floodwaters as the 15-meter tsunami hit the plant. Their bodies were discovered April 3.

Two workers have been injured through exposure to highly radioactive water while laying a cable at one of the units.

33. High radiation kills your bone marrow
Dead bone marrow means you have leukemia which means no new blood is being produced. That is most likely why he died of 'blood loss.'

TOKYO (Dow Jones)--A worker at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant died after collapsing at the site Saturday, with the cause of death still unclear but apparently unrelated to any radiation dangers at the plant, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (9501) said.

The man in his 60s complained that he wasn't feeling well when he was working inside a building for waste disposal in the early morning.

He was unconscious and not breathing when he was taken to a doctor's room within the plant's premise.

The death was later confirmed at a hospital. The worker, who belonged to a subcontracting firm, was on his second day of work at the complex. His exposure to radiation was 0.17 milisievert, which is within normal levels, and no radioactive contamination was found on his clothes, the spokesman for Tepco said.

http://e.nikkei.com/e/fr/tnks/Nni20110514D14JF651.htm

"Although Matsumoto said no exact cause of his death has been found as yet, he stressed that no radioactivity at harmful levels was detected in the worker’s body, and that he was fully covered with a mask, gloves and radiation protection suit."

worker in his 60s reports to his second day of work complaining he doesn't feel well, then drops dead.

heart. or stroke.

unless radiation exposure is massive, you don't just keel over.

bets?

Fukushima Daiichi plant worker dies

A worker at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant fell unconscious at work on Saturday and later died.

The worker in his 60s complained of ill health while working at a waste processing facility. He worked for a subcontracting firm of Tokyo Electric Power Company. The man was taken to a medical office in the plant, where he was found to have lost consciousness. He was then taken by ambulance to a hospital in Iwaki City and confirmed dead shortly after 9:30 AM. The cause of his death is unknown.

Tokyo Electric says the worker had been transporting equipment since Friday. He was scheduled to work for 3 hours from 6:00 AM on Saturday. The company says the worker had put on a full protective suit and was not exposed to radioactive substances.

This was the first time that a worker at the Daiichi plant died after the March 11th disaster.

36. They are saying it was not a radiation death. He was a new worker and was in his sixties.
The Japanese government’s maximum level of exposure for male workers at the plant is 250 millisieverts for the duration of the effort to bring it under control.

In the numbers are correct, the death was not caused by radiation. The man was exposed to less radiation than one would normally get from a stomach x-ray. To cause sudden illness and death, an exposure of several thousand millisierverts of radiation would be necessary.

The man, who was in his 60′s, was an employee of a contracting firm. He had been wearing a protective suit, gloves, and mask. It had only been his second day working at the plant.

It is the third death that has taken place at the nuclear plant. The other two deaths were caused by the earthquake and tsunami. So far, there has been no confirmed case of any workers dying from radiation poisoning.

46. You mean like you're doing trying to convince people it wasn't radiation?
Projection makes for such irony...

BTW, the scale of lethality for radiation can vary from milliseconds to years or decades. And some of said lethality involves organ failure, not just cancer for example. So yeah, a less than 2 day exposure and a "heart attack" could very well be due to radiation. Or maybe it is not due to radiation. My point is that I find it ironic those who chastise others for making assumptions about this death being due to radiation, as those who claim it could not possibly be due to radiation. This being, after all, an event involving a compromised set of nuclear reactors and stuff...

so unless you want to claim they're lying about all that, no, it couldn't.

and this comment: "Probably an overdose of bananas, it happens all the time."

suggests quite clearly what *you* believe.

45. wtf? you think there are other dead workers (aside from the two who died in the tsunami)?
and *they* aren't telling *us* about the deaths?

i supposed the families of the deceased were given forgetfulness serum or have been locked in concentration camps so they can't tell us "the truth," too.

the guy was over 60, second day on the job, complained of feeling poorly when he went into work that am, & keeled over wearing full radiation gear.

do your best to spin that into a radiation death.
