(Scotland) fan jailed for monkey taunt at El Hadji Diouf

A CELTIC fan who made monkey gestures towards Rangers player El Hadji Diouf during an Old Firm game has been jailed for three months.

Racist Sean Smith taunted the West African striker as he took a corner kick for the Ibrox side in February this year.

The 19-year-old was reported to police by fellow Celtic fans who were disgusted by his behaviour and was later arrested after his photograph appeared in a Sunday newspaper.

Sentencing the disgraced fan at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday, Sheriff Lindsay Wood told Smith his actions that day were "despicable".

Sheriff Wood said: "You have pled guilty to what I consider to be despicable racist behaviour.

Even here in Chicago, I will not go anywhere near Toyota park, where the Chicago Fire play, on a game day.

Without getting into a First Amendment debate, it's amazing how civilized a legal system can be.
