Something I just noticed about two new Credit Cards
I got two replacement Credit Cards in the mail last week, one from Lowe's and one from BP oil. Both of them replace cards which expired. They are different from the cards they replace in this way - neither of them has an expiration date on it. I wonder why?

1. i have some store cards without expiration dates on them
I assume the companies had decided that an expired card might dissuade a potential customer from traveling to their store for a purchase and/or that the cost of replacing cards automatically outweighed the benefits.

5. you don't even need your card to use it at fashion bug. I haven't ever used mine yet,
but my sister has one and told me that I don't even need to have the card. Just show my driver's license. That's sneaky of them because I do not carry any cards with me. I will take them if I plan on using them for a specific purchase. It's smart on their part because I guess I am more likely to use it even if I don't have it. But I have had the card for awhile now and have yet to actually use it yet.

11. I did that one time (left them at home).
It felt good getting home empty handed. I really believe if I had the CC card with me at the store, I would have bought something really expensive.

Lesson learned! :)

2. Dillards doesn't put exipre date either
I've had my account for almost 20 years. They did send me a new one about five years ago also with no expire date because I am a "prefrred": customer, whatever that means.

13. OMG!!! I'm surprised the Christian-y stores don't have May 21, 2011 as an expiration date
Lol...since all the good people will be lifted up, you'd think they'd want to make sure no bad people were using their credit cards and ruining their credit score.

4. I set the expiration dates on mine......
...with a pair of scissors! I was just sent two personal debit cards from my M/C, each with a free $15 on them. I'm not getting caught up in that trap, I cut them up immediately. I use two credit cards, one for gas, one for everything else. They get paid off every month. I don't pay fees, period. Don't use ATMs, and only write checks when I pay bills. I use cash for most everything.

6. Are you saying the previous Lowe's/BP cards HAD expiration dates?
And now none?

7. Yes, the old ones had expiration dates and the new replacements don't.

9. Don't you need an expiration date to order stuff online or over the phone?
All those online forms require an expiration date,
those webpages won't work anymore?

10. Good question, but these aren't the sorts of cards you'd use for on-line orders
One is a gas companies' card that is one of several that I carry when traveling in lieu of carrying cash for fuel and the Lowe's card isn't used for anything other than in-store purchases either. So it might not make any difference that they have no expiration date.

I have no idea why they don't have the date, and I don't think its likely to be anything particularly sinister, but I'd bet my life whatever it is that caused them to do it somehow increased their profit and like all increases in their profits, it comes at my expense.

8. Because the world will end in 2012, and they didn't want to alarm you.
Leaving off the expiration date will give you the impression that we won't all be in heaven in another year.

I'm guessing this will make entering data for online purchases a total pain in the ass. (Can you order from BP online?) "Honey, the UPS guy just delivered your tank of gas. Where do you want it?"

14. You gotta use 'em occasionally or they'll just cancel them after a few years
Just had that happen with my Target card. Had it for 15 years, but stopped using it a few years back.
