Disney trademarks SEAL Team 6 for games, toys — snow globes?
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/os-disney-trademarks-seal-team-6-20110513,0,2557097.story

In the wake of the killing of Osama bin Laden, SEAL Team 6 — the elite Navy squad credited with taking out the 9/11 mastermind — has become an overnight sensation.

Now, the covert team could wind up the subject of toys, games and even Christmas tree ornaments — courtesy of The Walt Disney Company.

Records show that just two days after bin Laden's killing, Disney Enterprises, Inc., filed paperwork to trademark the name "SEAL TEAM 6."

The applications, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, are pending. It was not immediately clear how the theme park and entertainment giant plans to use the name, if granted.

This is wrong on so many levels.

1. Maybe they'll get Justin Bieber to do the soundtrack.

2. IF they start producing action figures, board games, and snow globes, that will be wrong.
Simply stamping a trademark on the name is ominous but not wrong.

3. It'd be wrong to make a theme park ride out of the mission too.
But I'd probably want to ride it.

I can't imagine they'll sell many Seal Team 6 toys to the Middle Eastern countries though.

Anything else?

Can they get a trademark on "US House of Congress" and own the rights to any movie or toys associated with that?

Disney=Corporate asshats masquerading as christian family values.
At least those guys over at Warner Bros. shop (who did the "violent" Merry Melodies cartoons to compete with mickey and crew) had the decency to tell us what we were paying for (CARTOON anvils dropped on CARTOON heads, IE, the cartoon extreme-ing of the very real idea that there is ALWAYS going to be someone smarter, faster, stronger than you, and that life generally gets ruined just as soon as the little yellow bird is in your furry little paws, and that thats exactly what you DESERVE to get for being a dick in this life.)

the Brothers Grimm are probably laughing their fool heads off at the level of saccharine that ol' Uncle Walt infused into their tales...
and applauding with a round of toasts to the genius of Leon Schlesinger and Company.

4. If they do follow through, none of it will be made here.
It'll all be stamped "Made in China," which is the highest form of patriotic display known to our great nation.

6. IMO, this patent should be denied and if I belonged to any message boards for military- I'd raise
hell about this and try and get a campaign to stop it.

How can Disney trademark a name of a US military group?

12. Because it's Disney
They play the patent and trademark game like nobody else. Any other characters would have long ago passed into the public domain, but Mickey and Minnie and Donald and all the rest of them are still fully protected, generating lots of money in the name of a man who passed away nearly half a century ago. Disney characters may become the first intellectual property to be granted patent immortality.

14. Will these toys shoot other unarmed toys and violate international law?
Edited on Sat May-14-11 09:37 AM by Bragi
Osama bin Laden is dead, but every other claim originally made by the Obama administration about his last minutes was a lie...

Let’s be clear what the Obama administration was doing here. We’re not talking about the inevitable confusion caused by the fog of war. These were deliberate lies concocted by men – Mr. Obama’s men.

We’re also talking about the premeditated violation of international law, the cold-blooded murder of four unarmed people, and the overwhelming support this illegal, primitive action has received from all sides...
