Celebrity homophobe issued "minor offense" $162 citation for driving 84 in a 65 zone
Willow Palin Busted for Speeding ... In an ESCALADE

5/14/2011 12:40 AM PDT by TMZ Staff

Sarah Palin's 16-year-old daughter Willow pulled a fast one last week -- because TMZ has learned she got a speeding ticket in Alaska ... for driving nearly 20 mph over the speed limit.

According to docs filed in Alaska -- Willow was pulled over last Thursday for driving 84 in a 65 ... in the Palin family's black Escalade.

According to the docs, she was issued a "minor offense" citation for $162 and let go without further incident.

Better luck next time.

2. Seriously - I have children in their 20's who are cautious about driving
on highways because they don't have much driving experience. When they get the chance - they drive with another pair of eyes in the car as back-up. Any parents of teenagers out there? Would you let your 6 year old driver, presumably with less than a year's driving experience, drive an Escalade alone on on a high speed highway?

3. There is still that false impression that putting the kids in a big tank type SUV
is "protecting them." We learned the hard way in Colorado after an entire series of deadly crashes involving teens in bigass SUVs...In reality, they seem to be harder for the inexperienced to control--and of course there is that "flipping" tendency as well. But the impression lingers.

I love it when the NPR car guys take some of these false impressions on and point out that NEWER cars (including small cars) are safer because of all the air bags, and traction correction devices, and general design, while the big mega SUVs may be nothing but top heavy.

7. They also make mentally weak people feel like they're "in command" on the road.

8. SUV harder for inexperienced to control..
We didn't call 'em "barges" and "boats" for nothing, that's exactly what bigass cars usually handle like, you have to make a lot of allowances, just like in a large boat, an inexperienced driver doesn't know this.

4. First she shouldn't be driving a 50K vehicle, she has the right to be on the highway if she has a
license, however, given this child's already risky behavior, I don't believe I'd let her drive anywhere. She's a menace when she isn't driving. In general if a young person shows responsibility and respect towards others I absolutely would allow them to drive anywhere they chose as long as they were within their right to do so.

6. What a surprise that they drive one of those outrageous dinosaurs. I bet they feel big and safe.
Even though it's totally inconsiderate to other drivers who drive real cars.
